I was just looking thru the threads and noticed none on the subject of runes. I happen to prefer Runes in my divination due to the comfort of them. Also I seem to get a direct answer to my inqueries. Im not saying they are not w/o deep spiritual insight as well. I fone looks at the answers recieved there can always be a spiritual meaning behind the cast. this is another reason why I prefer runes, I get answers that are on par w/ my spiritual quest as well. The casts usually seem relevent to my current spiritual situation--even if I wasnt asking about the matter.

Does anyone else have any insights on the use of Runes as well? I am always looking for more effective ways to use them.

Laterz.....

Do you use:
1. home made runes?
2. the elder FUTHARK?
3. the blank rune?
4. reversed runes?

I use home-made runes. That way I may choose the crystal or stone to suit my harmonics - very often I see a stone which really appeals to me and have gradually built up a suitable rune set.

The elder Futhark (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Blank rune is not an option. Charlataine flummery.

The reversed runes - yes. Just because they are reversed means that you have to maybe look a trifle deeper into their interpretation, as any negative or obtuse qualities are just as important as obvious and positive ones.

I've always found that runes work a lot better for me than cards when practicing divination. My runes are also homemade, they're just stones I've found that resonate well with me and then painted all fancical (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) My emphasis on reversed meanings is a little shaky. I generally say that the reading can encomapss influences from both upright and reversed, rather than one or the other. I've also been looking a lot more into runic history lately and practicing reading and writing with them, as well as looking at runic warrior charms and talismans like the aegishjalmur and such. Kind of a lot of information to take in at once:P

How do you choose the stones for your rune set? Are they differing in size?

Stones resonate and you will be attracted to a stone with the right vibration and sound. Stone size is a matter of choice. I personally would not like to lug a bag of boulders (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) What you like you should use.

For a long time I used Runes exclusively, yet now I used their correspondences to the Tarot. I find that they do clarify the answer. I do prefer home made Runes, as it makes them more personal and attuned to myself.

1)No I dont use home made runes--I do want to make my own some time though--I can whole heartedly agree they will be more attuned to my vibes and energies. But the runes I got now a extremely charged by me as I used them constantly for a span of one yyyear (what I mean constantly--I mean like 5-10 casts a day).

2)Germanic Futhark

3)I do use the blank rune--and I do like to have that rune in the mix. It tends to correspond w/ The Fool tarot card in my mind. The void of being at every infinit moment.

4)Sure I use the reversed runes--but they all seem to work in reverse anyways. I try to encompass both ways in my cast as there is always two sides to every matter--so it must be in Rune casts.

I use Germanic Futhark as well because I'm too lazy to go out and make my own. But if store bought tarot cards are effective so are store bought runes. And I actually preffer rune casting to card reading also. The way I see it is that the reverse and blank runes are all part of the package. To take either out is like not playing with a whole deck of cards.

Well to me Jera represents the Fool.
Runes do have their negitive values, but should be read upright. IMHO (I'm more of a traditionalist)
I also don't believe in the blank card idea. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/medieval.gif)

I've never really been a fan of the blank rune, but Eabatu's thought on the blank rune as the fool is kind of interesting. My runes are a bit larger than most of the runes I've seen, mainly so that I can be sure which one I'm being pulled towards when they're close together. The runes I use for divination are elder futhark runes and those witch runes that came out sometime in the 20th century, and for writing I use elder futhark and am working on the anglo-saxon runes.

I use home made. There's nothing wrong with store bought, but the act of creation is inherent in my way of working, in fact it's my definition of magick. I started with Elder, even used the drop of blood mixed with Tung oil to make a truly empowered set, staining a wind blown maple branch that blew down the day I was thinking of making them. It's a nice set. (I also use the same wood for Servitor and sigil work.)

Since I believe the sacred letters (alphabet) are the most powerful form of empowerment a practitioner at my stage of work can create -- I believe it connects the conscious mind to the subconscious and ultimately to the Deep Mind if you create your OWN runes -- I now only use my own runes. I created them over a period of many months, developing them out of my driving passion for unifying all traditions (east to west, shamanistic to ceremonial, Tibetan to Qabalah, magick to science (same thing in my mind, anyway))-- by first creating a vast spreadsheet of every correspondence I could find and think up, starting with AC's 777 and working through the vast array of symbolism in my Tibetan practice and my earlier work with Taosim (Daoism). It sounds tedious, but the act of engaging the conscious mind this way becomes a form of gnostic mantra. The result was amazing. I also correspond the runes to the Tarot majors and also elemental suits, aces and court cards, and it all seems to work beautifully. Of course, this becomes the "code" to interpreting the cast.

The act of creating my own sacred runes, unique to my work, and my own runeset out of wood (in Taosim a very empowering element) has created quite the extraordinarily intimate tool for me, not just in divination, but as a tool of empowerment.

But, if I'm to admit the truth, I use them a lot, but my special bond is to the Thoth Tarot. I carry a Thoth pocket deck with me everywhere I go, use it in both divination and higher works. It's pretty much the only tool I would never work without. Sometimes I use both. They do compliment nicely.

I made my own runes and spent a long time consecrating them singing the galdr over them. It is a cool experience doing this. The runestones themselves seem to throb and pulsate as I cant and sing. Elder Furthark, but my pronounciations of the runes may not be standard.. I ignore any reversed reading as that seem to be something grafted onto runic practices from tarot cards. Probably I'm a bit of a traditionalist, trying to recreate the original practices as much as possible. I'm still at the stage of meditating on each rune and its meanings. My interpretation seems to be changing still. My son asked me to make him some bindrune charms which I just finished a few days ago.
