Imagine an apple.

Got it?

You just visualized an apple.

Imagine = Visualize.

Visualizing is not magickal, but can stir up particular energies and allow you to get access to them. You'll start to realize that after a little bit the visual will fade from your mind, but the energy will still be there.

peace

Perfct work Vagrant. We all can visualize. Its a matter (for some) of makeing it a natural thing. But most people already do this with some skill.

Visualization is oft very closely associated with concentration and willpower.

One with a strong willpower can concentrate more without being vexed, one with enough concentration can visualize what they wish better.

Of course there are the colour barriers too, but most everything is connected between visualization, concentration, and willpower.

There are two "types" of visualization.
One is where you see the object against some type of mental "screen". This is usually the kind referred to. You actaully see the object, and it registers with your visual sense. Some people have a difficult time with this, but can usually practice and achieve at least a useful skill at it.
The other is when you imagine the object. Your not actually "seeing" it with a visual impression. This is akin to the awareness of an object (or whatever) when you remember something. This often seems to occur somewhere above your head . . for me (depending on what I'm doing visualization-wise) its above and outside my forehead hairline. Sometimes it occurs directly (or slightly infront of) the top center of my skull. This kind of mental object awareness can be initiated or assisted by considering other sense modalities (texture, smell...)

Just my opinion, the second is more difficult, more powerful, and more directly accessing the subtle or astral body.
(its also the one I think most adepts are referring to when suggesting one "visualize" something in the course of magickal work)

Even if its difficult to get the picture, at least do involve the feeling associated. Like for instance the apple, feel the taste, the texture, the smell ... Feeling is more important to me than seeing... It applies also to energy works too....

I agree there. Start with feeling and from there the seeing will come. At least when talking about the aura.

In the future please use the search function. Normally threads like these get closed but because there is already some good discussion going on I won't do that. But somebody else might.

Visualization is simple - you use your imagination to see in your mind the dimentions and details of something.

For example, I used to play with legos as a kid. I had probably some 100,000 different pieces. Building with them was a process of thinking about what I wanted to make - by thinking about it I was using my imagination. I was thinking about the size, the color, where the little lego people would go (I used to make space ships) and so on. But I wasn't only thinking I was doing something. By doing I was also feeling the legos and fitting pieces where I thought they should logically go. Understand, as others have already pointed out, visualization doesn't have to be only a visual thing. If you can imagine what something looks like then you can imagine its texture or feel and what it might smell and taste like. (Umm.. don't try to eat any legos though... they hurt comming back out the other end (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )Visualization is pretty synonomous with imagination.

Another example is when making any kind of art - even music can produce visual, imaginative affects - but especially sculptures, pottery, paintings, drawings and writting. When making a piece we think about what we want to create and again by thinking about we visualize in our minds what we want, like brain storming. Writting is a little different in that the only visual affect is what we imagine when we read the words. Yet none the less writting is a very effective way to engage your visualization skills. Needless to say there are many ways to go about visualizing something. I like to write and draw and doing either is probably when I visualize things the most. When ever I do either or both I am visualizing in my head what I want to create or say.

In the world of mysticism visualization is very important and one of the basic fundamentals that any magician should learn very well. The reason its so important is because its used for so many things; especially like meditation, pathworking, remote viewing, bi-location, astral projection or dream magick. I'd argue a magician uses visualization in every work he/she does.

A good practice to try is what I dubbed the "apple technique" and Makavelli did a fine job explaining it in this thread:
http://www.sacred-magick.org/index.php?showtopic=2724

I'd add more but I got to go.

Just sit back and relax with a good Fiction book some night. That was an easy way for me to utilize it and mold things as i see it. also useing Infinite minds eye-q program works wonders.
