Hello,
I'm what I would consider a Christian Mystic, I suppose. I'm one of those take-the-bible-at-it's-word people that you probably laugh about or secretly hate, in that regard. I'm also interested in the more hidden secrets contained therein.
I don't neccessarily limit myself to the Bible, however, unlike most of my comrades. I'll generally consider for truth any Book that Jew's have taken as such from an early time.
For instance, I accept the Book of Enoch (at least book 1, I've not made my mind up about book 2), as it's referenced in the Bible, and was accepted as fact around the time it was written.
In the Book of Enoch, where it talks about Azrael (I believe) teaching Man what I can only term "Christian Magic," and that validates my previous belief that there was likely a Christian magic, hidden in Heaven, though it may be.
I believe that Enochian Magic, as given to Dee was probably the closest we're going to get to the actual word-for-word knowledge of this hidden Christian Magic.
Where can I learn more about Enochian? I've read a bit, and it's awfully technical. I'd like an in-depth overview minus the technical stuff. I guess what I'm looking for is an explanation of the different parts of it, and why some things are thought to work, who the entities are believed to be, what the tables mean, etc Scrying the Aethyrs is an interesting topic I'd like to hear more about, as well.
If anyone could give me such an oveview, or direct me to one, I"d be most appreciative.

I'm not the one to direct you . . . but since I'm here . . . Enochian is almost by definition a complex and technical study/practice. I know alot of people don't like Tysons Enochian Magic for Beginners . . . but it is a place to start. Ben Rowe is a staple in the field . . . but probably not necassarily recommended beginner. Just my take, find material that initially avoids the Golden Dawn in its Enochian, then pick that up afterwards . . as they made changes/adaptations/progressions to the original material. I guess thats, start at the beginning and then explore newer material. Athena has some good articles on her (I think used-to-be) site: http://www.nightshademagic.com/enochian.html (also www.enochian.org) Good luck . . ask alot of question (and assume you'll get alot of different/conflicting answers).

I agree with you that this is the language that best approximates the language of the angels who Enoch came to be with, also - I think it approximates the language used pre-Fall. The words used in enochian magic are mostly extracted from tables of letters and numbers, the enochian language used by the angels at least as shown to kelly/dee seems to be more geometric/mathematical than anything else, just look at the other book of enoch as transmitted to dee/kelly - it looks like a computer-type language as the torah does with its huge grid of letters/numbers. I think donald tyson's book is a good introduction as redhand and palindroem say, only thing I'd recommend with regards to that is to ignore every time he trys to explain the system from his POV as that sometimes confuses things - the best way to get an explanation after having gone through the system is to actually ask the angels themselves, it's difficult to transmit verbally in some respects. The easiest symbol to explain is the sigillum dei emeth! If you have experience with the qabalistic tree of life from the egyptian/jewish spiritual sciences then it seems to follow the same form as we see when the sephiroth are concentric circles about the centre malkuth, the angelic names descend from outer edge to the centre in a logical way as the emanations do on the tree - the three concentric seven-sided shapes in the sigillum seem to match-up with the structure of the enochian language itself, which is divided into three blocks of seven.

Tyson is alright for beginning background, although I would be leary of his apocalypse theory. No one believes that but him. If you want to jump right in and start to make sense of the material the best two texts I can recommend are: Book Hand Liber ChanokhBook H gives a good beak down of each tablet and where all the angel names come from and how to find them. Liber Chanokh shows a break down of each tablet and the Golden Dawn/Crowley methods of working with them. Not having a ritual magick background it might be a little over your head but should give you at least a place to start. The enochian calls were changed slightly by Crowley. To compare them to the ones the Golden Dawn used you can cross reference them here: Enochian CallsFinally once you begin to see how the tablets are put together check out the Concourse of the Forces gives more in depth explanation of each square from a golden dawn understanding.

Greetings Hamilton, I would recommend this book before Tysons Enochian for dummies http://www.amazon.com/John-Dees-Five-Books...75212054&sr=8-5 The language of the angels is very powerful. If you are Christian I think you should check out The Greater Key of Solomon aka Clavicula Salomonis http://www.amazon.com/Greater-Key-Solomon-...75212565&sr=1-1 I would recommend the Greater Key before trying Enochian. It has wonderful amulets / pentacles which when created and carried on ones person have miraculous effects. Pdf of both of these books are in the forum library. Also if you are Christian perhaps you should explore Rosicrucianism. Christian Mystics. http://www.rosicrucian.com/ No one is going to laugh at you or secretly hate you here for being Christian. There arte many paths for many different people. All Gods are one. Hate is ignorance. The Book Of Enoch is great. He was Elijah’s brother. They are the only two men who were made Arch Angels according to tradition. I was born into a Christian family myself so I understand your urge for knowledge within the regulations of Christianity. I strongly recommend that you study Kabbalah as well. The books Zohar and the Sephir Yetzirah really complement the Book Of Enoch. The Zohar is a large volume of books but is summarized well here http://www.amazon.com/Zohar-Splendor-Basic...5213239&sr=8-12 A good translation of Sepher Yetzirah can be found here. http://www.amazon.com/Sefer-Yetzirah-Creat...75213394&sr=8-1 The ZOhar and Sepher Yetzirah are texts that you will want to read and set down for a while. Study other books of Kabbalah and then later re-read the Zohar and Sepher Yetzirah. The more you study Kabbalah the more you understand the hidden meaning of the Bible. Fortune Dion is an easy to understand Kabala writer. Israel Regardie is the best but you have to have a strong base in Kabbalah before you can understand him. The Bible <Old Testament / Torah is a group of books that Rabbis decided to give to the Greeks. It would be impossible to compile all of the Hebrew texts into one book. It might stand 10 feet tall from the floor! The Kings James Bible and Earlier Bishops Bible have huge discrepancies from the actual Hebrew text. They were altered from the original Hebrew meaning. For example King James was Bi-sexual and was angry to see that the original translation was so hard against homosexuals. He ordered that it be changed and the result was King James II version. Also due to the rivalry with pagan religions of that time some of the text was altered to validate killing pagans. For example “ Thou shall not suffer a prisoner to live was changed to Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.” Our modern Bibles are mistranslations of the already corrupt King James and Bishops Bibles. The most beautifully written and most authentic Bible I have ever read is the Book Of Yahweh http://www.yahweh.com/bookofyahweh.htm However this edition has a spin off sect which believes the world will be destroyed by nuclear war etc. They seem a bit crazy from my point of view etc. Peace!

Greetings Hamilton,
If you read the bible and take it at face value, then I have a passage for you.
1 COR 12: 7-10
7Now to each one the manifestation of a Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

QUOTE(Athena @ Oct 16 2007, 02:26 AM) I find Enochian evocation by Geoffrey James the best book to start with. The five books of mystery is the original sourceworks/diaries which might be a bit difficult getting through as a first book. Tyson is OK if you just ignore his theories LOL. The James book is out of print and quite pricey, but it is also worth far more then the $70 it tends to sell for. Oh yeah, and of course I have to mention my own website *g* www.enochian.org there are some articles up there (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). Athena Where did you find the James book that cheap? The cheapest I could find was from amazon for $200. Anyone got a pdf of the book?
