Hello, I've decided to dedicate my first post here to asking if anyone could have any idea to what I saw when out of my body over three years ago.
I have had OBE's all of my life, though it wasn't until June or July of 2002 or 2003 while listening to an interview with Robert Bruce on Whitley Strieber's old radio show that I finally realized what was going on. Afterwards, I got one of Bruce's books and began studying. On Sunday, August 17th, 2003, I woke up at about 9-10AM. I work night shifts, so I tried for 2 hours to get some more sleep before getting up. Finally, I fell asleep at around noon, and began to dream. I remember walking up a grassy slope bordered by 2 neighborhoods, with a very few trees on the slope here and there. I was walking upwards along a path, and became aware that I was following right behind a little boy. The child veered to the right, where the trail split, but I continued upwards; ( by the way, in my own dreams I have observed that as I ascend hills, mountains or am in buildings, the higher I go the more lucid I become, and the deeper the experience...thoughts from the forum on this?...).
Anyway, as I continued to ascend the grassy slope, I suddenly realized that I was dreaming. I became excited too, as I recognized this dream world as being one of the many ones that I return to over the years. At the top of the slope is a road, then an abandoned housing slum/project. If I get beyond this, and a wide sloping plain of barren red clay, I reach a small city with bizzare architecture. I really wanted to make it to the city, because I could feel just how tenous my grasp was in this dream world, and how I could accidentally awaken at any moment. As I walked along, (yeah, I know that I should have just flown...), I began thinking about Bruce's book. I also remembered a line from the book "Psychedelic Shamanism", about some OBE technique or other.
As I did so, I began hearing the Doppler Effect of passing cars...but I could see no cars in the dream. I then realized that I could hear what was going on in my room, and that I was actually hearing the cars passing in front of my house as I stood at the edge of the road in my dreams.
Without any serious intentions, incantations, etc.,etc., I simply began to think about leaving my body. Suddenly, blackness closed in around me; (I have noticed that there is a black space between dreams and conciousness...thoughts?). And there I was, awake in bed. So much for that, right? Daylight..12:30 noon. I then noticed an absolutely huge black arch over me.
Now, when my consciousness leaves my body/enters, I do so from my head. I have heard that some leave through they're mid-section...forum thoughts again, please. So...from my perspective, the sides of the arch were on both sides of my bed, along the same axis as my "head", and were so thick as to be unable to be quickly observed, easily 1 1/2-2 feet thick, with the top of the arch at about eight feet high, and about 8-10 inches wide...and to really make things fun, I didn't realize yet that I was "out". Imagine going to bed, living alone, then waking up to find this above you.
I carefully decided to take stock of the situation. Looking SLOWLY from left to right, I observed that the sides of the arch were wavy, (not moving, just wavy, like a 'kris' blade of a knife. As I came down the right side of the arch, I then noticed my left arm. It was silvery/greyish. I went to shake it back and forth, but as some know already, learning to move your ghostly body is a little different than moving a huge lumbering lump of meat...more finesse is needed. All I accomplished was producing a "hummingbird" effect; that is, I moved my arm back and forth at a physically impossible rate of speed, and what really got me was that my arm was bending between my wrist and elbow. At this point I realized what was happening, and of course freaked-out. I then remembered what Bruce had written in his book, that the easiest way to snap an OBE was to try and wiggle your big toe. I did so and woke up, toe wiggling furiously and me finding my arms in the same position as during my OBE.
Thoughts, anyone? I have many more experiences, etc. to share and ask about, but please be patient with my replies as I am working 6-day night shifts. Thanks to those who made this forum possible!

I'm new here, so I haven't known about the post that you are referring to. I'm also not particularly partial to arches...thanks, though.

That's all right. Actually, my true name is Phoenix. I just playfully misspell often as "feenix". Last name is even more strange..and my birthday is August 18th, right after yours.

In an OBE you would not hear the Doppler because the hummingbird effect obviates sound to a screech so you couldn't hear that either. OBE blocks out all human senses because you have moved onto a higher plane and to be concerned with recognising and identifying things that are familiar in daily life is not usually undertaken in that state. More than likely you were imagining you could hear sound.

The arches are a form of light effect, similar to the red shift of diminishing light or an astral spectrum. You were very lucky to have seen them as they are a rarity, like a lunar rainbow. The small child is usually a fore thought - the opposite of a memory, and they always travel upwards. That is the only way they can go and the child is you in your future.
