I can look at my hand at will and see almost a centimeter of "layer." This transparent layer is yellow/white (sometimes with tiny red spots) and looks like a coat of laquer, but sometimes, it thickens, wicks, and curls up like small tenticles of steam that rise from this second layer about another centimeter. I'll come back to this in a minute.

Alternatively, I can stare at my hand and consentrate on it. After a minute or so the edges of my vision will blur and darken a little, but my hand will become vibrant with electric blue, white, deep green, and/or other colors as much as two inches thick. (I'll have to look up aura colors some time.)

1. Do I (or everyone) have two auras? What am I looking at here?
2. Why does my first aura sometimes look like steam or small tentacles?
3. Why is there such a size difference between the two auras? The first one is about 1-2 centimeters thick but the second one is 1-2 inches thick.

Greetings!
You aren't seeing 'two' auras but, rather, two parts of your aura. Find yourself a full length mirror and step back. You'll 'see' something that will extend around 2 to 5 feet around you. The thin bluish/white coat is your etheric sheath. The next layer extends from 1/2 inch to upwards of 4-6inches is your personal aura sheath, this will be made up of a variety of colors, dependent upon your enerrgy system and emotions, etc. and finally an outer sheath/auric egg that will extend outwards from there. The Theosophists (for one group) have published many books about aura. Leadbetter(sp?) and Powell have illustrative guides with pictures of various auric fields and what they mean. Google around or wander through our Library for more research. One of our members (AuntClair) has a number of informative posts in the learning center (and elsewhere) about this subject. There are any number of other members also that are fairly knowledgable in this area. Vagrany D may be able to help with more info.
There is a good number of other books that you could research. 'Nuclear Evolution' is an interesting tome by Chris Hill that deals alot with aura but some find his neo-Christian slant too much. I could write volumes about this but I also poison threads so fast it isn't fun...LOL! So I'll shutup and let oyjers get involved with their own experiencex/knowledge! Take the time to study this and not wait to be spoonfed....it's out there!
From past posts you've mentioned wrath/rage as part of an indulgence. This may show up as an angry red flash or a muddy red cloud within your aura. Keep an eye out for it! Balance is a state to be strived for...IMHO, of course!
1. Your etheric layer will either be a surrounding coating and, occasionally look like steam.
2. Depending upon the health and/or energy of a person will dictate the 'size' of the outer auric layers.
Everyone has this aura.
Good luck! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/i_triangle.gif)

Interesting... Thank you. I'll so some more digging. Wow so much to learn; why can't I split into a dozen people and study all this at the same time?? It's fun learning about magick, but there is so much. I want to eat the whole elephant, not take one bite at a time, LOL.

Rage is something I rarely express externally, and I when I do, I feel guilty afterward. However, I typically "bottle it up" and I can feel it on the inside for a while after.

I'm curious about what others see in their auras when they use their perceptions (colors, patterns, etc.) so if you want to share, go ahead.

Eat a whole elephant and your gut will likely burst.

When you experience anger like that, best thing you can do is let it cool down, then talk about what angers you with someone rationally, all the better if it's the person who inspired it, as it is the energetic pushing/pulling between people, concepts, etc., that causes that rage. You should work on understanding why you get angry and coming to find a new way of perceiving the things that set you off. Lots of people say that anger means you're human, that it's part of the experience, etc... but it damages the energy system, and is indicative of a vulnerable spot in the mental/emotional body. I compare it to disease, or fleshwounds - sure it's part of the human experience, but there's a good reason we avoid them, they're harmful.

I don't see my aura so much as sense it like a part of me. I can see it if I really try, but it's easier for me to see auras around other people/things - I don't see so well through reflections for some reason. But I still sense color in a way, but as temperature, textures, sounds, and tastes. SOmetimes smells as well.

Sensing my own aura kind of feels like having 'subtle skin' that I feel in a different level than my own skin. it's just like feeling the contents and area of my own body, but instead it has less of a defined shape. I even feel the gradient as a kind of shift in intensity.

I can directly sense eight different layers, and manipulate those layers to various degrees - the ones closer in are easier, the ones farther out are still more difficult. However, I have seen up to twelve layers around people. I think that some people have more layers than others. Or, maybe it would be more accurate to say some people's higher levels are more developed than others. The least I have seen is five, and that normally (those times I'm in a position to know) around someone extremely underdeveloped psychically and spiritually. So, I believe there is a correlation between the development of 'higher' layers and the ascension/awakening process.

The outside layer is always characteristic of the 'kethric egg' as I have taken to calling it after Barabara Brennen's nomenclature, and the topmost layer usually always has the same characteristics. However, between that and the physical body there can be a variance in the number of layers, and so i think that we don't acquire 'new' layers, so much as the aura becomes more evolved and various layers within it become more complex.

There is:after the physical body, the energetic body/matix, the mental body, the emotional body, the astral body, the spiritual body, the body of light, the Temporal Matrix, and then after that I just refer to them as the higher mental, higher emotional, higher astral, and higher spiritual bodies, topped by the kethric egg. Everyone has an energetic, mental, emotional, spiritual and temporal body. THe ketheric egg I don't typically count, as it's more like a container for everything else, although it's the layer i'm least familiar with as far as observed function and experience goes. I think everyone has an astral body as well, but in some people it's so underdeveloped that it's hardly observable at all. The body of light similarly requires developement, and the higher four bodies are part of the ascension process directly, and are only found in spiritual masters, highly developed psychics and magicians, etc, far as I can tell.

There are about a billion books on the subject, but personal experience is best. I have never read anything that really covered the various ways one can experience the auric layers, or a really detailed explanation of all of them. There are only a handful of authors I would trust on the subject anyway, there is already so much information out there that I think many authors simply read a lot of information and the synthesize it into a new book. A sad truth about the 'new age' book market. *sigh*

peace
