I have a friend that says after successfully evoking a Goetic demon that one can command the spirit to attend to you without needs of the circle etc. I've read the grimoire, I see no such instructions. He's also told me that once successfully evoked you keep the sigil in a vessel of brass with the seal affixed. Again, I see no such instructions. Am I missing something or are these modern techniques?

To the best of my knowledge, it's because these instructions don't pop up in all the versions of the Goetia that are floating around out there. Both Peterson and Hanson's version have this, IMO the Peterson version is superior on this issue, while the Crowley and Hanson versions have better seals.

Personally I've found that the charge to 'come when called w/out ritual' or words to that effect work just fine. Try it and see.

The Pentacle of Solomon is used to command the the spirits, according to the text in the section describing the pentacle.

There is also a short incantation given in Artem Novem for the pentacle, wherein the spirit is named and commanded.

The Brazen Vessel may be used instead of the triangle, by substitution of the words "in this brazen vessel" instead of "in this triangle" in the conjurations. The vessel must be prepared as described in the text, and there is no mention of the seal being placed in the vessel for storage. There are many legends of Djinn being held captive in brass jars sealed by Solomon.

I have not used the vessel and can only guess at why one would do this. I assume that if you call a spirit to solve a particular problem and then encounter that problem again much later, the vessel is preferable to the full ritual. It may be that the spirits who are "detained" are those kept in such vessels.
