Om Artemis, Astarte, Isis Hum, Adapted Meditation Practice Options

In Vajrayana (Tibetan Buddhism) there are meditation techniques in which one visualizes a particular Buddha or Bodhisattva (Shakyamuni, Tara, the Medicine Buddha, Vajrasattva ...) and holds this image of them doing something (usually pouring light and nectar into you) while you chant their mantra. It's a very rich and colour experience which certainly brings one closer to realizing one's own Buddhanature.

My question is if you were to design a Wiccan/Pagan version of this, how would you go about doing it? I suppose one could use the Celestial Alignments of the God/dess very well in this instance. Similar to Drawing Down the Moon and Drawing Down the Sun. I just think that this would be a very interesting thing to use in Wiccan/Pagan practice. Especially for those who also practice magic, since in magic there is a heavy emphasis on visualization that is already there, so it seems natural to take advantage of that practice and funnel it toward divine union through visualized meditation.

The only thing would be coming up with a suitable mantra. Typically in Vajrayana, one chants the "spiritual" or "astral" name of the Buddha he/she is calling upon. For example, when meditating upon Tara, one chants: "Om tare tuttare ture svaha." Vajrasattva's mantra is 100 syllables long, so I won't type it out here.

With regards to possible mantras ... you know how in the Charge of the Goddess there is a list of many names of the Goddess? I've heard some people take these names and put them to a tune and sing over and over again. Would that be what one would use as a mantra in such a visualization?

I adapted this from the Vajrasattva Purification Practice. It centers upon the concept of the Goddess in Wicca, but could probably be adapted to suit any specific deity.

Visualize about four inches above your head an open white lotus upon which is a moon disc. The Goddess is seated upon this. She is white, translucent and adorned with beautiful ornaments and clothes of celestial silk. Her two hands are crossed at her heart; the right holds a key, symbolic of the door to great bliss; her left holds a chalice, symbolic of the wisdom of mystery. The key and chalice together signify the inseparable unity of the wisdom and form bodies. At her heart is a silver moon disc with the letters of all Goddess' names standing clockwise around its edges.

Recollect, with great reverence, the specific acts of love and beauty you have created. Then meditate deeply on the meaning of the following:

Keep pure your Highest Ideal; strive ever toward it; let naught stop you or turn you aside. For Mine is the Secret Door which opens upon the Land of Youth; and Mine is the Cup of the Wine of Life, and the Cauldron of Cerridwen, which is the Holy Grail of Immortality.

From the moon disc at the Goddess's heart, light radiates in all directions, requesting the goddesses to bestow their blessings. They accept the request and send white rays of light and nectar, the essence of which is the knowledge of their body, speech and mind. The light and nectar absorb into the moon disc and the names of the goddesses at the Goddess's heart. They then fill her whole body completely, enhancing the magnificence of her appearance and increasing the brilliance of the names.

While reciting the following mantra, visualize that white rays of light and nectar stream continuously from the moondisc and names at the Goddess's heart. They flow down through the crown of your head and fill every cell of your body and mind with infinite bliss. Recite the mantra at least 21 times or more, if possible.

Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Innana

The Goddess is extremely pleased and says, "My spiritual child of the essence, all your negativities, obscurations and degenerated vows have been completely purified."

With delight, the Goddess melts into light and dissolves into you. Your body, speech and mind become inseparably one with the Goddess's holy body, speech and mind. Concentrate on this.

"And thou who thinkest to seek for Me, know thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not, unless thou knowest the Mystery: that if that which thou seekest thou findest not within thee, thou wilt never find it without thee."

If it works for you, then stick to it. The Goddess isn't going to ignore you because you decided to get creative and mold a meditation/evokation to fit your needs. I personnally think it's very beautiful and will no doubt work for what your looking for.
