The Celestine Prophecy, by James Redfield Options

Again another personal recommendation for those interested or beginning energy work. Although this is a fictional book, and not particularly well written - it's fabulous to help you to understand connections with different kinds of energy.

It follows a guy on an unexpected adventure, discusses coincidences and acknowledging them, and uses his adventures to talk about 'insights' which are the keys to the gradual understanding and acceptance of energy and how it works.

If you aren't expecting a literary masterpiece, but enjoy a good light read and have an open mind and an interest in energy - then this one is for you.

I agree with Anu about this book (she's the one who recommended it to me).

I am quite the neophyte when it comes to energy work and this book helped to initiate my understanding a good bit. I guess I would say it made me aware and gave me a beginning frame of reference.

I found his writing a bit wooden and his characters are not multilayered, but his ideas make the book worth the read.

This book was also one of the steps toward me becoming interested in reiki which has helped to further my understanding of energy.

The Celestine Prophecy is a good book to read (i've read it several times) and I would recommend (and have recommended) a read.

It is easy to read; 'the plot' slightly predictable in places. It is not the best written novel in existence, but it is an enjoyable read. It is, however, a better read than the further two volumes which follow!

There are some 'pearls' of wisdom throughout the novel which in their own right make the book a worthwhile read for the philosophy alone.

Love is not an intellectual concept or a moral imperative or anything else. It is a background emotion that exists when one is connected to the energy available in the universe, which, of course, is the energy of god

The 8th insight is about using energy in a new way when relating to people in general, but it begins at the beginning, with children

Part of the 8th insight is learning to interact consciously when in a group. As members of a group talk, only one will have the most powerful idea at any one point in time. If they are alert, the others in the group can feel who is about to speak, and then they can consciously focus their energy on this person, helping bring out his idea with greatest clarity

The 4th insight reveals that humans have always felt short of energy and have sought to control each other to acquire the energy that flows between people. The 5th then shows us that an alternative source exists but we can't really stay connected with this source until we come to grips with the particular method that, we, as individuals, use in our controlling, and stop doing it - because whenever we fall back into this habit, we get disconnected from the source.

If someone wants to learn the basics in energy work, this book is a great way to introduce them to it. While I do agree that the plot isn't the best, and the writing isn't show stopping, it's the deeper meanings in the book that I have always come to appreciate.

IMO, it's one of those 'love it or hate it' books. A friend of mine hated the book, though admits that he has given credit to the book about meditation.

One of the concepts in the book that I have come to really take to heart is how they explain energy flow between people. Since reading it, I have really come to watch myself when engaging with other people. To stop and actually LISTEN to what the other person is saying, to fully focus my energy on them and what they are saying, instead of being busy formulating my responses. I have found this to be an instrumental ability in all aspects of my life.

BTW...this book is being made into a movie, so it should be interesting. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

i don't know, although i have read the book several times, and even tried its system. I am not to sure if this system is one to believe in.
It may very well be completely delusion and lead one astray.

I think this is good advice for every aspect of one's life.

Out of curiosity, in what ways to you think it could lead one astray?

i've read his entire serie. the celestine prophecy, tenth insight and Shambala. they are indeed bad books if you're looking for action and adventure. although you are present the don't fulfill a primary role.

the celestine prophecy talks about the first 9 insights and people who try to obtain them. it is a nice book that explains in a very easy way how energie fields can be seen around life forms such as flowers, plants, trees. it also shows how coincidence doesn't excist and that everything happens for a reason. the way it shows psychological behaviour which you take over from your parents is nice to read about as well.

as for the rest it shows interesting theories and ideas which are worth pondering about. they might show things differently which will make you think about a few things.

taking this book as a learning manual, i wouldn't recommend it.

I agree. It is not a learning manual (not to me anyway). It is 'insightful' (OMG, is that a word?) ... it provides ideas and concepts which make you think for sure. But it doesn't reveal anything new or 'earthshattering'. It is a gentle introduction for novice into philosophy and questing.

I found the other books in the series boring to say the least. Certainly not of the same standard as the first (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blablabla.gif)

The part that stuck out at me the most in the book is when the main character goes to the monastary and eats with the monks there. He's stuffing his face full of freshly steamed veggies while the monks are eating so slowly, savouring each bite. It made me think of a comment my cousin made about the brain taking at least 20 minutes to register the fact that your stomach was full. Thus why people who wolf down their food often have digestive or weight problems. That, and when you chew your food thoroughly you saliva is able to break it down properly and you're able to fully absorb vitamins and nutrients.

Sadly I wasn't able to finish this book. At the time I was reading it, it was all the hype. Someone lent me the book and told me to read it, every other day someone would call me and ask "Did you read the book yet????? Huh?? Didja didja didja???" That turned me off of the book for a while. Maybe now since it's a few years later I can read it in peace.

Superbe book. read the french version which translates "La prophecie des andes". i would surely attach an ebook on how to create a psi ball where the dude asks the main character to touch both index fingers and try moving them 2 cm apart and notice what happens inbetween.
But overall i really love this book..
