Enochian Magick And Thelema, There is a close connection between Enochian Magick and the advent of Options

I believe that the Enochian magick of John Dee laid the foundations of the realization of a whole new state of mind that would flower three hundred years later as the advent of Thelema. Crowley had been trained and initiated in an order which incorporated Enochian magick in a crucial way. He was ready to receive the developed impulse of the new aeon whose seed was planeted centuries earlier in his home country. Of course, many cultural factors in Europe fed into the slow evolution of the potential that came into actualization as the new aeon of Horus in the 20th century but it was Dee and Kelley's work that gave this a potent focus.

I've always been struck by the passage in chapter one of "The Book of the Law" that discusses the four gates to one palace. I think much of the mystery of this verse can be explained by referring to a dream Edward Kelley had while working in Dee's employ. This is outlined in Geoffrey James' book "The Enochian Magick of Dr. John Dee." Kelley saw a castle with a central tower surrounded by four gates. Four parades of angels marched out of the tower toward the gates in hierarchies which came to be incorporated into the elemental Watchtower tablets which the Golden Dawn later used in its initiations.

I really think there is a connection and that much of Dee's magical system is ideally designed for Thelemic use. It's no accident that his 30 aethyr system brought Crowley beyond the maximum level of initiation thought possible by his teachers, when he achieved Master of the Temple. A new state of being was forged and a new and greater Path was blazed for other Thelemites to follow. What do other people think?

This is a very good point you have made concerning the Link Between Dr. John Dee's Enochian System and the Enochian Working of the 19 Calls or Keys by Alesiter Crowley.

It may be of interest to not that Dr. John Dee felt that he was being given the Enochian Cryptological System of Angelic Writing to further his Ministration with the English Governement in the 1500's. Yet according to the dictates of the Angels he was not to work the Enochian Keys himself, He was told that they were for a time off.

It is said that he felt himself to be receiving a Covenant between himself and the Angels the Language and means in which to work the Enochian Keys or Calls, yet every time Dr. John Dee would try to get an exact direction or instruction from the Angels they would tell him that human concerns do not interest them.

It appears the Angels intended the System of Enochian Magic be used to initiate the process of violent and destructive transformation linking that Aeon, which Thelemites claim has ended, with the New Aeon, that they claim has Dawned. This of course would be the Aeon of Horus - The Crowned and Conquering Child. The Transformation was to be like the Transformation as described in the Book of Revelation or The Apocalypse. In many places throughout the Angelic Conversations, the words of the Angels are filled with Apocalyptic imagery.Gabriel expresses the Higher purpose very clearly while speaking with the authority of God,

"I have chosen you, to enter into my barns: and have commanded you to open the Corn, that the scattred may appear, and that which remaineth in the sheath shall stand. And have entered into the first, And so into the seventh. And have delivered unto you the testimony of my spirit to come. For my barn hath been long without threshers. And I have kept my flayles a long time hid in unkoen places; Which flayle is the doctrine I deliver unto you: Which is the instrument of thrashing, wherwith you shall beat the sheafs, that the corn which is scattered, and therest may be all one. (But a word in the mean season) If I be Master of the Barn, Owner of the Corn, and deliver of my flayle: If all be mine (And unto you, there is nothing: for you are hirelings, whose reward is in Heaven). Then see that you neither thresh, nor unbinde, until I bid you, let it be sufficient unto you: that you know my house, that you know the labor I will put you to: that I will favor you so much as to entertain you the labourers within my Barn: for within it thresheth none without my consent."

This message was delivered unto Dr. John Dee through the Skryer Edward Kelley, to me it is clear that they were not to attempt the Practice or Calls of the Keys, but that it was meant for another time.

Dr. Dee was aware of the Angelic treaching that the disobedience of Adam was responsible for the curse of God upon the Earth. The Earth is regarded by the Angels as a Goddess. The Watchtowers were established at the moment time began, which was when Adam was expelled from the garden: "But in the same instant which Adam was expelled, the Lord gave unto the World her time, and placed over her Angelic Keepers, Watchmen and Princes." We know that the Watchtowers are equibalent to the Watchmen from Kelley's great vision of the Watchtowers, expounded by the ANgel Ave: "The 4 Houses, are the Four Angels of the Earth, which are the 4 Overseers, and Watchtowers."

In 1909 Aleister Crowley with the Skryer Neuberg began a series of the Enochian Calls and Keys. They performed the Enochian Calls and Keys in the Desert of Algiers. Aleister had practiced the 19th or hidden Key in Mexico sometime earlier.

After Aleisters performance of the Calls and Keys and his experiencing of the 30 Aethyrs, it could be noted that only 5 years had elapsed before the start of World War 1 in 1914. It has been compared that the Working of Aleister had opened the 4 Gates into which the Angelic as Well as Daemonic Forces could re-enter into the Earth Realm in which Human Kind would be influenced once again by their Knowledge and Wisfdom, such as were in the Days of Enoch.

I will not speculate if this is the exact timing of the Beginning of the Apocalypse for mankind culminating in World events tday, but one things for sure, Knowledge and Wisdom have multiplied upon the face of the Earth with such great leaps and bounds that we have become a danger to ourselves from our own Technology and Advancement. Yet as the Axiom of the Thelemic Practitioners states, "Do What Thou Wilt, Shall Be The Whole of The Law." In following this Axiom many Practioners today have been freed from the bonds of Mediocrity and a Social Conditioning that set the Earlier Aeon in a Moralistic struggle against itself.

Much of the 30 aethyers was practiced in a dream state. Many of us know that dreams are a gateway but crowley performed the ninth (i believe) in the desert but it was actually in dreamstate (in a desert).
The keys and gates spoken of can be seen through many shamanic and other books. Castaneda being one that comes to mind.
The thelemic 22 refered to i believe is also the 22 trumps of tarot. the thoth tarot (made by crowley) pretty much confirms that. Rememeber any number is infinite.
