Someone posted last month that they found a box with some strange items in it and they thought it was a spell. This gave me an idea that I've not read any books about: If you find a talisman, or are the recipient of a spell, could you find the intention and solve the caster's spell?

Example, I find in my house a talisman with an E an X and an O on it. Could I determine what the intent of the spell was, what hour it was made under, what phase of the moon, etc... and in essence nullify the talisman?

I guess there are other ways of doing this... but it's just a what if.

Why would determining the intent nullify the work.
Taking the talisman example . . . a talisman being (in one sense) a place to store energy that is particularly aligned to an intent. The energy and intent are inherent in the talisman (if well made). Other then defacing the talisman (interupting the intention-alignment) or simply destroying it (discharging the stored energy) . . . how would simply solving the "riddle" disrupt it (other then meddling with it being semi - disruptive)

?
