I have become bored with the Simon's Necronomicon, sure its cool and has a lot of nifty stuff in it but I think its time I moved on and broadened my horizons. The Old Ones always captured my imagination more than the Elder Gods anyway.

And so here I present you a funky ritual that I have prepared and will do soon (probably best after my exam next Tuesday lol). Its a ritual aimed at summoning the powers of the Old Ones and their primal energies for a variety of reasons and to focus myself in further exploring the Mythos. Its a very open ritual and you can modify it for any purpose or to fit your needs. I have taken some elements from other Mythos rituals, but I havent included any barbaric names or incantations, I thought I'd leave that for you so you can make this ritual your own.

A magical weapon, an athame, staff, wand etc should be prepared before this ritual specifically for work with this paradigm. There are consecration methods in many of the pdf files that can be found around the web, or you could just make your own.

1)Sit and meditate for a good while, clear your mind and calm and center yourself.

2)Banish using the GBRP as it involves no god-names then its completely unbiased and will not effect any proceedings during the ritual. (I don’t think they'd be happy if you banished while calling the names of spirits and gods of a Judeo-Christian nature.) Or use one of the rituals in the 'Banishings that Work' thread as they are very good.
Once this is done light candles and incense etc.

3)With your right hand use your athame (or equivalent other) to draw out the pentagram of fire while making the Voorish sign with your left. Begin in the North and, as your make the first sign call forth:
"To the North I summon Shub-Niggareth!"
Then repeat clockwise.
Hastur!
Nyarlathotep!
Dagon!
When back to North, look down and do the same, call forth Cthulhu
Then look up and call forth Yog-Sothoth
Now while visualising all the pentagrams around you call forth Azathoth by visualising a final pentagram within the central of the chest.

4) Visualize the pentagrams begin to spin around you, growing faster with every deep breath. Continue until they are just a spherical blur around you. Visualize reality moving further and further away, you are in your own separate sphere of reality and no time or space exists outside of the ritual chamber. The center of this universe that you have created is yourself and you are in control of all reality.

5)"The circle surrounds me/us!
I/we stand outside the circle of time,
Between the world of man
and the realms of the Old Ones of the Outer Spaces,
By your great names I/we summon you forth, that I/we may converse with you!"

6) Now choose the entity that best suits your need/desire, stand in its direction and call out its name again. This time visualize the entity you wish to contact and call its name until it is noticeably present within the chamber.

7) Ask of it what you desire.

8) Dismiss the God with thanks and by drawing the fire pentagram over its cardinal direction with your magical weapon while making the Elder Sign with your left hand.

9) Banish by again, visualising the sphere around you in motion, although this time it moves counter clockwise. Breath deep and with each breath feel yourself filling with energy and light. Once you feel that you are full of light, allow the energy to discharge into the magical weapon, it should shine with furious intensity. Once it reached breaking point allow it to explode with light, hurling all the energies from the chamber out into the universe and returning you to reality.
Then perform the GBRP.

And remember to have an 'elder sign' handy. Not the fake star one but the proper 'tree' one which HPL himself created.

As a wise man once said..."Use the star one and you'll be fighting off the Old Ones with your bare hands."

Are the 'Old Ones' evil? Lovecraft describes them as alien and chaotic but does not seem (at least to me) to make a moral judgement about good and evil.

The 'evil' acts of the humans who fall under the influence of the Old Ones are a product of insanity rather than direction from the Old Ones themselves.

I think it was after Lovecrafts death that the Cthulhu Mythos writers (August Delearth (sp?)) and others who introduced the moral judgements.

Please note that I am not an HPL scholar, and have not read much of the non HPL 'cthulhu' works so please correct me if I am wrong.

Hmmm... I'm not sure when the terms of 'evil' were assigned to the Old Ones. August Derleth had alot to do with finishing HPL work in latter years.
The Mysteries of the Worm that is available at that website is the same as the one we have in the library. It claims to be authored by Sibellius, a Roman born 280BC and then goes on to say that he wasn't into Christianity.......I think that this should tell you volumes about the veracity of this gorefest. A true monument to those with nothing to do on a Saturday. *sigh* Whatever floats...

QUOTE(thief_and_a_liar @ Jun 18 2005, 12:35 PM)
If you want to work with the Old Ones, it should just be right that you convert your soul into total blackness and start sacrificing humans to get their attention. Being EVIL is the keyword here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/diablo.gif)

Read and learn from De Vermis Mysteriis found at:
http://www.angelfire.com/rings/blacklotusm...y/lhptexts.html

-thief

"If you want to work with the Old Ones, it should just be right that you convert your soul into total blackness"

ah....already done.

However, the rest is stupid. Evil is perscriptive, it has no reality. And that text is just funny, it doesnt even keep with the mythology. Its just being 'eeeeevviiil' for the sake of it.

I dont view the Old Ones as 'evil', just as I dont view the Elder Gods as 'good'.

That bit about 'being sensible and denying Christianity', in 280BC was Hilarious!

I will do this rite soon, and I may post my results, or lack thereof.

P.S, Thanks for the link it had some very cool pdf's!

Is it not clear in the Necronomicon that the old ones want nothing more than the distruction of humanity? I by no means wish to pass judgement on you for wanting to work with them but simply wish to know why you wish to invoke the old ones.

I'm not working with the Simons Necronomicon, as it isnt actually Lovecraftian. I'm taking influences from the actual work of Lovecraft and adapting it for magical use. Simon's Nec is primarily Mesopotamian magic with Lovecraftian theme and not much else.
I don't view the Old Ones as Evil (as 'evil' is just a moral judgement, and I try to work beyond such simple descriptions), I see them as a primal, singularity force that lies above and beyond the spheres of man. I see them as the primordial building blocks of reality itself, they lived before the Titans, before time and space, and sleep now as the Universe exists. The day they awaken properly will be the day the Universe ends.
I have worked with them simply because they appeal to me in a very strong way, and and they don't half respond when you call upon them! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Wow, interesting thread. Yes, I didn't view them as evil either, but then again I only read the Simon Necronomicon (Not completely, have about a fourth left) but I didn't view them as evil per se.
Yes, that would be good that you post your results here Alarum. I would be interested in hearing them (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).
Thanks,
~Christopher

EDIT: Got done reading today, wow lol, I thought I was a slow reader, I was reading off and on, and it took me only 12 days... But I still hold my views.

I am interested if there were any results as well.

Did Alarum ever return? Perhaps he was too successful?

To these I turn, in these I trust;
Brother Lead and Sister Steel.
To his blind power I make appeal;
I guard her beauty clean from rust.

He spins and burns and loves the air,
And splits a skull to win my praise;
But up the nobly marching days
She glitters naked, cold and fair.

Sweet Sister, grant your soldier this;
That in good fury he may feel
The body where he sets his heel
Quail from your downward darting kiss.

To add something constructive: I thought HP Lovecraft's works were all fiction? Call of Cthulhu and all that? What were the original texts he drew inspiration from?

Greetings 'JackConnor' ,

You are correct it was the invention of H.P. Lovecraft. A guy named George Hay published a Necronomicon of the old ones and book called Ryleh text. With a bit of Google searching you will find that George Hay does not claim the book is real. He admits it was written for novelty value. I read his Necronomicon and found it to be hysterically funny garbage. If you like H.P. Lovecraft it is worth it just for a nice read. Trying to use it for occult practice? Seems like a waste of time to me.

Peace

QUOTE
The Aeon of Cthulu Rising
By Tenebrous

"Nor is it to be thought ... that man is either the oldest or the last of earth's masters, or than the common bulk of life and substance walks alone. The Old Ones were, the Old Ones are, and the Old Ones shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them, they walk serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen. Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and when they shall break through again..."

H.P. Lovecraft, The Dunwich Horror
(as from the `Necronomicon')

The century in which we live has witnessed the dawning of a New Aeon; or rather, the return of energies and entities, across vast gulfs of time and space, from primal eras which antedate by millenia the appearance of humankind upon the Earth. In his pivotal Mythos tale, The Call of Cthulhu, Lovecraft has adumbrated the first portents of this return, the outer edges of whose pericosis with our own continuum is detected by the incredibly subtle and sensitive "antennae" of poets, writers and artists - more especially those already aligned to the concept of "outsideness" through their own explorations of alien, exotic, bizarre and outre subject matter. And indeed, it is through the work of such artists in actuality that the first hints and descriptions of these forces and entities find expression.

This "new Aeon" is currently known under a variety of names by differing cults: the astrological "Age of Aquarius"; the Thelemic "Aeon of Horus", inaugurated by the avatar Aiwaz, in 1904 e.v.; Frater Achad's "Aeon of Maat", the Era of Truth and Justice; and so on. To that particular body of magicians, artists, writers, and other visionaries of the Cthulhu Mythos which constitutes The Esoteric Order of Dagon, the emerging era is recognised as the Aeon of Cthulhu Rising, with reference to the prophetic fictional work of H.P. Lovecraft, as outlined above. As his description of the initial wave of Aeonic energy (which has such drastic effect on the dreams of "sensitive" individuals around the world) coincides with the rising of the island of R'lyeh on 28 February 1925 e.v., the E.O.D numerate this event this event as Year One, A.C.

However, before the complete influx of these elder forces into our present space-time continuum can be facillated, the secret and primal gateways must be located, and opened, to allow access from "outside the circles of time." This gateway has been glyphed by Lovecraft as one of the Great Old Ones themselves - "the noxious Yog-Sothoth who froths as primal slime in nuclear chaos beyond the nethermost outpost of space and time." As Guardian of the Gate, he is synonymous with Choronzon. The "nethermost outpost", itself an opening or window to the dimensionality of the Great Old Ones (Universe B), is the star Sothis, or Sirius.

In turn, the gateway of the New Aeonic forces (Yog_Sothoth) is identified with the "non-Sephiroth", Daath, on the qabalistic Tree of Life. As Kenneth Grant explains:

"It is now possible to see the continous flow and evolution of Aeons occuring simultaenously and passing over into the world of anti-matter. The Yog (or Yug .. an aeon or age ..) of Sothoth is the counterpoint - as the Aeon of Set-Thoth, or Daath - of its Twin, the Yug-Hoor, or Aeon of Horus. Yog-Sothoth is the Gate through the aeons to the Star- Source beyond Yuggoth, the Yug or Aeon of Goth."

Outside the Circles of Time, p. 214

The knowledge and formula by which this gateway can be reopened can therefore be only apprehended through the negative vortex of Daath. In the case of Lovecraft himself, who in waking life vehemently denied the verdical nature of the material with which he was dealing, the process of appropriation was almost completely subconscious, occuring through the medium of dream-experiences. As would be expected, the visitation of such unhuman and ultracosmic revelations took the form of the most hideous nightmares.

By the same token, those initiates of the E.O.D. who are working towards the Opening of the Gate of Yog-Sothoth must be prepared to undertake this most dangerous descent into the Abyss of Daath (the so-called "false knowledge") in order to activate these formulae effectively. This process involves the projection of a part of themselves into those spaces "between", to which Lovecraft makes repeated reference, and which constitute the existentiality of the Old Ones themselves. Is is here that this "false knowlege" (glyphed as Lovecraft as the grimoire, Necronomicon) can be found and retrieved, brought back through the vortex of Daath, and finally given actual, concrete manifestation in the Outer.

I've read this over and over again, and I cannot understand "exactly" how to judge what is scripted here. Is this some sort of a hoax?
In other words, im confused because i've never read the Simon Necronomicon, i've only read a false copy of one I found long ago.

I am also to post the link of the site from whence I got this from in "Chaos Magick" forums, very interesting site.
