In my development I've started thinking using three archetypes that I refer as the three great illusion:

The illusion of nothingness, the illusion of soulessness and the illusion of formlessness.

Well that sounds pretty interesting. Would you care to elaborate?

The illusion of nothingness: nothing is nothing because nothing is something.

The illusion of soulessness:ever hear how someone went on about how a machine is souless? if you look deep enough any and everything has a soul or spirit its just a matter of comprehending it

illusion of formlessness: everything has a form including formlessness, nothingness, and the soul

How would one go about applying this cosmology to their craft?

I'd like to venture a theory, let me know if you've come up with something along similar lines, cloud hex - I love the fresh views you bring into the occult. At least, fresh to me - most everything's been thought of at one point or another.

It seems to me that these three illusions are a means of helping to define the nature of the universe, from an occult perspective, by stating three things that the universe cannot be. (my definition of universe is more than just the physical aspect, all of creation.)

Even one pronouncement of what the universe cannot be will narrow down the posibilities significantly if you think about it. Three, and you have almost the foundation of a paradigm from which to operate.

The illusion of nothingness tells us that everything is structure, there is no 'outside' of existence. We can apply this assumption because it tells us that everything is significant. We think sometimes in terms of 'within creation' and 'outside of creation' but even the Void is a principle, and therefore it is something, even if that something is the principle of nothingness. Creation is all inclusive. Therefore everything is a source of energy, because all of creation is energy, even the lack of something. It's almost a sort of polarity.

The illusion of soulessness is a restatement of animism, in my opinion, and can be applied as animism. But, in a way it's almost more inclusive. If we are to say that soulessness is an illusion, then all things in creation have a soul - including nonphysical things like concepts, beliefs, and also taking into accound chemicals, etc., things generally considered 'outside' nature (a fallacious statement IMO) This widens any kind of magick involving a principle of soul, evocation, invocation, communication, etc.

The illusion of formlessness lends itself to the understanding of what is - all things have a form, a structure, even unstructured things have a form that is simply non-physical. All things with form have a 'place' and have 'something' to grasp or work magick on or from, including 'nothing' given form by contrast to 'something'.

Actually, laying it out like that, it's sort of way of stating some rather common principles in a different way.

But, tell us what you think, cloud hex, i'm interested to know if you went somewhere different than this in the application.

peace

Oh, wow. I was hoping it would be something different, I do love to be surprised. But I like theme behind the concept - it is perhaps even more accurate to express what existence cannot be, than to list all the things that it can be.

And I do love things in threes!

peace

You love things in threes? you're not the only one:

trinity of discord: chaos, disorder and anarchy

Try this quadradic riddle:

Nothing can be everything. Everything is something. Something could be anything. It all returns to nothing.

I undersatnd the meaning behind that, but in contrast to what I wrote myself it comes off as less meanful to me.

Looking over the lyrics of a song, I found that these parts of it go along with what I', getting at:

http://www.lyricsandsongs.com/print_song/697296.html

The illusion of soulessness: We're every you see

The illusion of nothingness: Look out we might be real

The illusion of formlessness: This time we got you caught up in a dream

This reminds me of "The three marks of existence" as taught within buddhism. Perhaps you are working on an intellectual potion. A theory of some kind. A blend of the finest principles. If im not mistaken the three marks of existence brings the "5 agragates" into play. All quite fascinating. The posibilities are endless cause your not the same person you were before you read this message...and you wont be the same one when the archetypes are alive and no longer a thought. Keep me posted
