[size=2] Hi, I'm new here. And I was wondering whether I could get some advice. Could somebody tell me how I could start an order like the freemasons or the hermetic order of the golden dawn? I want to create a breakaway coven that specializes angel magick, astrology and one that is not particularly pagan, however, does practice occult rituals and does not particularly go by the bible. Kinda like the Templars. My idea is to also include a political view, which I explain of in my blog. Please see: My Blog I appreciate that not all will agree with it, but was wondering where I could advertise my beliefs and views and gather a following. I have advertised on myspace: Click here and have had a few people interested. I have exchanged a few messages with them, but I do not feel that they would be interested enough to turn up. I have tried to leave flyers around town, but they always get taken down. Where I live, (peterborough, england, ) there seems few appropriate places to put them. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas to help me create this sort of order, or maybe are actually interested in helping create it by passing on the message or becoming a member of the community I hope to create. If you are interested, please email me at [email protected].
Thanks.

Hm, well welcome to the forum. Personally I think you should be well studied, to the point possibly where you are capable of instruction without a sourcebook, and should be a fairly accomplished magician in your own right before you go about founding new groups, etc. This way not only will you attract practitioners of a similar caliber, but that base will allow you enough of a 'collective experience' as it were, to then initiate others who are newer to the field.

The main idea behind having such a group in the first place is to develop for one thing, a support system of likeminded individuals, secondly to work together towards some group goal, and to help one another achieve individual goals, then to initiate the new candidates, and finally as a research and experimentation foundation, where knowledge can be shared, and experimentation reviewed.

A group of neophytes may have a difficult time organizing such a thing, and getting something worthwhile out of it because, frankly, they more often than not haven't acquired the less popularized qualities of the magician - namely discipline, devotion to practice, a regular and productive lifestyle, and of course, the wisdom to consolidate the individual will with the new group will.

But good luck none the less!

peace

Thanks.
I am reasonably well-studied in ceremonial magick and witchcraft, (maybe the latter a little more.)I have read the lesser key of Solomon and the Necronomicon. I remember enough about it, but gave up with it because it was too far-fetched. It was saying about rituals for invisibility and flight etc! I suppose I am more like a witch rather than a magician, but my beliefs are not particularly pagan and do deal with more esoteric subjects.

I will learn a bit more and I am writing a book about my own system of ritual magick. I have created a few rituals myself, like they had to change the rituals in the necronomicon, or like satanists transform the mass into the black mass, so I'm not just totally making stuff up.

However, whether I was a two year old dressed in a robe clasping an athame, I would still have the same problem of the advertising and getting people together, any ideas?

Anyway, thanks for the insight,
enjoy your weekend.
