Worried Options

i have tried starting my magickal path with goetia work. But the spirit work isnt working, but is it possible to start with goetia work or do you have to train your magickal abilities.

p.s im also worried about my faliure of goetia work i feel like ive let myself down. im worried if im someoone who cant release these abilities

Start small (You're just starting out.)



I wouldn't try tackling the goetia just yet. It's best to have a strong background in the basics (i.e., the LBRP.)

As I said, you're just starting out. Give yourself some time to develop (After all, Rome wasn't built in a day.)

Only if you're constantly telling yourself you can't. Or that there's no such thing as magick, or if you privately don't want results for some reason.

It's also very likely that you're not following the ritual procedure exactly. Until you're experienced and know how to move the energy on your own, it's best to stick to the letter of the grimoire at hand.

If you follow every detail exactly, you'll get results. If you're not able to follow them just yet, then you need to work on other things before tackling the goetia, as Sorceress has said. Just being familiar with the LBRP is not the same thing as being experienced with it. Doing it once or twice is not the same thing as doing it twice a day for a year. The more you do those simple rituals that touch on lots of different kinds of energies, the more you become familiar with the movement of energy around you. It happens gradually over time, not all at once.

When people say "oh, you don't really need a circle, or a triangle, or any of the other tools" either A) they're actually full of it and just repeating what others have said; or B) they're a more advanced practitioner, and know how to access the energies associated with a symbol without all the hubbub of a big ritual. Working with pre-established symbols is not something most beginning practitioners can do without a preordained formula. So don't sweat it too much, just get the basics under you first. Just knowing it isn't enough, you have to experience it for yourself, feel it, see it in action.

As I said, you're just starting out. Give yourself some time to develop (After all, Rome wasn't built in a day.)

I would go with what "The Sorceress" said, Start with the Pentagram rituals or even something lower than that, i.e. something like folk magick (I started out with Gypsy Folk magick) Work your way up into goetia, I have been practicing magick since age twelve, now at fifteen I still have not done goetia, Rome wasn't built in a day.

If you doubt you can do the magick, don't try it, it won't work, or worse it will work and screw you over. go back and studdy some more then start practicing a lower level magick.

I am going to be blunt and put this very simply. If you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly. If you sow generously, you will reap generously. Those are the facts of life, I'm afraid. You will get out what you put in. If you put in diddly squat, you will get diddly squat out, or in most cases, nothing, or the reverse.
One cannot think 'a little magic is better than none', because this does simply not hold true, it springs from ignorance and laziness, and leads to delusion and the nut house if one is not cautious. In chemical reactions, there is what is known as the activation energy, it must be overcome before the reaction will properly take place (ignoring certain minimum number of atoms). This also I find, holds true in magic, that being, a certain amount of effort MUST be put in to get any reliable results at all. You will just waste your time and energy otherwise, your life will get gradually worse than it already is.
Evocation is not something to play with, you will get badly burnt, and you certainly will have no respect from the entities, nor any authority whatsoever over them, if you even manage to get a manifestation of them, what is more likely is you would get no manifestation of them, or at most if you are (un)lucky a manifestation of some of your own energy-which normally leads to severe delusions. Instead of going straight to evocation, particularly goetia evocation, I recommend you forget that. Forget reading at all for now, that can be done later, get to some actual Work, because the Work is what gets you your results, put some real Time into this.

If you are religiously inclined, you should start daily praying to God, in any method you like according to your religion or one that draws you i.e. prayers from the grimoires, psalms, prayers from the veda's, puja to Shiva, Krishna, Kali etc. Along with that read scriptures, such as the quaran, bible, gitas, upanishads, ramayama, tao te ching. These will get you in touch with Godhead, these will bring forth real results and open up your ability to channel Godhead. Godhead is the state from which magic MUST be done if one wants reliable, real, results in this, our most Sacred Art and Science.
If you are not religiously inclined, or even if you are, you should also take to some meditation, at least 30 minutes morning and night. This will Not be what I consider real meditation, as to achieve that is farther down the road, but it will calm your mind, which means you will deal with life in a calmer manner, stress will practically be a word not in your dictionary.
Along with those two things, you should do introspection of all your qualities, vices you have, virtues you have, attachments you have and aversions you have. You must know your Temple through and through. Of special importance in our case, is to introspect very deeply and most likely uncomfortably as to the real reason you want to practice magic, and to be brutally honest! Every night you should go over the day and analyze it for 15 minutes or more if necessary, identifying anything 'negative' you did, and be determined to not repeat that mistake again. Remove any aversions you have by deliberately going and facing them, control your senses, say you have an aversion to mushrooms, go and eat some! Remove any attachments you have, if you cannot handle a day without your computer, turn it off, lock it up, stay off it for a week! Focus only on the virtues you wish to develop, patience and persistence are most important.
You might also do some morning stretches, yoga, qigong, martial art forms etc to keep your body in a good shape, or go walking, jogging during the day. If one has time and is interested in Golden Dawn magic, you might also begin to perform the LBRP daily, though I wouldn't personally recommend that, you will get results, but they will be half-assed without a proper foundation and true understanding. Keep a diary and note down any insights that happen, as well as all you find out during introspection. Keep a dream diary if possible too, you can use this to check your inner states.

That is all. Forget anything else for now, do that and only that for about 6 months, don't even bother reading on magic for those 6 months, just do the Work. You do this and I ASSURE you, you will have established a firm foundation, and your later magical work will get far more reliable and real results than most people who skip straight to 'the magic' get. Do this and you will offer your praises from the rooftops for the advice. I will not lie, it is grueling work, requiring and developing strict discipline, willpower, bhakti, concentration and a calm state of mind you will have never known, but it is sooo Simple!
