Creating A Physical Magick Circle Options

I have ran into a problem with creating a magick circle in my dedicated practice space. I want to be able to draw the various circles needed for angelic/spirit evocation but the area is carpeted. The only thing I could think of that would work on the carpet was possible chalk but that cannot be cleaned up after effectively. I was wondering if any of you on here had any suggestions? I have thought of getting cloth and laying it down then drawing on it but I believe I would have the same problem of clean up unless I were to have a separate cloth for each angel/spirit. This then would create quite an ordeal for storage. Unfortunately taking out the carpet and putting in wood floors is just out of my budget.

Hi, mmmm, I have a 9ft circle. I used stone effect flooring that is waterproof, and can be rolled up, although I have painted the required names which makes it rather permanent, have you considered painting/drawing the circle and any other design reqiured in a permanent medium, and leaving spaces where you need to fill in different names on a regular basis with chalk or something similiar. The flooring I have can be easily cleaned of chalk etc.

I suggest you get some good canvas, and draw something nice and basic with waterproof paints, like the heptameron circle. It's a 6, 7, 8, and 9 foot ringed circle. The 6 foot inner circle is for tiphareth, the 7 foot circle is for netzach, the 8 foot circle for mercury, and the 9 foot circle on the outside of all those is for yesod. So it's a very powerful circle with lots of kabbalistic symbolism.

Between all of those rings, you fill in the names of god, archangel names with seals, angel names, names of the day and hour, season, etc. depending on the evocation. Basically, the circle is just the rings, and depending on the day and time of the operation, you fill them in with pencil for example with the appropriate names and seals. After you're done, just erase them.

I can help you find some affordable canvas (online) big enough for that if you want (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Home depot is your friend in this. I would suggest as big as you can and a material you can role up, however I keep thinking of using those pads that look like puzzle pieces. Interlocking tiles they are called. The other option I would go with is rubber rolls, you can get them in 4’ X 20~30’ length the 4 foot standard is because of pickup beds.

Depending on need, desire, and cash available you have a lot of good options.

No matter if you go rubber or canvas or some other material you should be able to pant on it and store it easily.

Other options is to go to a flooring store and see what they have, when asked what you are looking for state flooring that is easy to paint a logo on, and can be easily rolled up and stored…if they ask for what, you can answer as you see fit, from modified twister, to giant ouija board, are fun answers. Telling the truth is always amusing, but that invites way too many odd questions.

A surface to do art and not damage the carpet is also good, and accurate. But the main thing you need is a good surface that can be stored.

Another idea is investing in a good hand Vac…allows using salt and other dust based items for circles and symbols. But makes it take a while for each sitting compared to mobile platform.

Have a yard? Can set something up outside. Either one of those large tents where you can paint it onto the canvas floor of the tent or cut the floor out and create it on the earth floor. Or maybe a back porch or small concrete slab? I have done operations outside on a small concrete porch by using chalk. Perhaps a gazebo you can modify, put up some walls or curtains. If you live in a cold climate and do not want to be exposed to the elements, perhaps look into a small shop building, turn the whole thing into a backyard temple. Buying one pre-fabed can be expensive but if your handy a couple of 2x4's and some OSB is cheap.

Next are garages, I have also done that using chalk. Maybe a basement? Even new homes come with a attic accessed by that pull down. Put down some MDF sheets over the insulation and make a pad in a unused corner.

Inside the home: Got an unused large closet? Perhaps you can ruin the carpet in there, or cut the carpet out of the closet and expose the slab underneath. Small closets wouldn't work but many homes have walk in's in some of the guest rooms.

Other than those options above, you can go the roll up route. Use a sheet or canvas material to paint on then roll it up when done. If you want to go a little nicer perhaps buy a cheap rug and bleach the color out of the thing, then paint or sew the circle into it.

Last idea is a bit ghetto, but put down large strips of tape onto the carpet. One after another and build a big square, then draw it on with a sharpie.

There are a lot of options if you get creative enough.

Thanks for a the great ideas. I think I will use the lament flooring idea, I can pull it up if I ever need to. I can do just about any of them other then my garrage, to much crap in there and WAY cold durring the winter, I live in Colorado. Thanks again.

I've taken two pieces of plywood before and marked out the quarters of a circle (2 per sheet) and cut them out with a jigsaw then painted them and it at all worked to good effect. It was advantageous because the rim of the circle was made of four parts which were joined together when placed on the floor.

Biggest advantage is four seperate parts are easier to store than most other things. But this only applies for the actual ring of the circle with its emblems and divine names.

Additionally they create enough weight that you can cut out a circle from a large piece of fabric for the illustrations on the inside of the circle without having to worry about your movement messing up the folds and making things look poopy.

You shouldn't be able to see it but turn on a black light and it should shine and glow. Might work. I would test a section of carpet in a closet or something first to make sure it wouldn't stain, then use the downy in a spray gun on stencils so you get crisp sigils and letters.

It might be cool to run some over existing circles and use a black light during workings for added effect. Kind of interesting.

Very interesting idea. And how about physical pentagrams on the walls or other such figures. Could create quite a dramatic atmosphere.

Totally cool idea, and one I will probably see if I can do. However I know this to be the case with detergents, (but not sure about softeners) they attract dirt. That is to say, right off they will not but after a week or so, we will see that area is a lot dirtier then the rest of the carpet.

This is why your carpet gets dirtier after you shampoo it, Vs a new carpet…it still has a lot of detergent in it.

But the whole black light thing totally reopened my eyes to possibilities. No matter what the black light creates a surreal experience.

Since I lived for two years with candles as my main source of light, they are not as romantic in my mind. Cool yes, but candle light does not get me in “the mood” be it for ritual or other things candles get one in the mood for.

The Black light might do it.

I also read in some crap book, about creating a black light lamp shade for candles… any ideas on doing that?

islamicly we do a prayer on a knife and use the knife to draw a protection circle on the floor. just lighltly touch the floor with the knife and draw the circle with the knife.

There's a forum on islamic sorcery as well. I haven't been there in a while though. The technique you decribe is also used by druids as well with a sickle.
