A week ago, I was at the mall when I passed by the ubiquitous "Dead Sea Salts" kiosk (that you would fine in ANY mall) that was run by the usual petite hot Israeli chick (that you can find at ANY kiosk at ANY location...)

I met her on the way to picking my roommate up from work, as he was selling cellphones. She pulled me aside for the usual "Excyuze me sir, may I ask you a quest-shun?" Me, being a sucker for politeness, went ahead with the whole "ok, soften my hands just so I can reject your sales pitch politely" bit, and we exchanged names. She said her name was "Sigelit (pronounced "See-geh-leet" in english pronunciation)." I introduce myself by my first name in response: "I am Arpad (Hungarian, pronounced "ar-pod" in english pronunciation)." She gave me a funny look with a smirk, and says, "no....! That cannot be your real name?" At that point, I show her my ID. She settled with that for the day.

I continued to pick up my roommate after work day after day, and when a week passed, I hade a chance to introduce my girlfriend to Siggy (as my roommate calls her) and it became one big friendly gathering. My roommate spoke up and told my girlfriend, "she didn't believe his name was Arpad." Siggy interrupted, and said, "It is because in Hebrew, 'Arpad' means 'Vampire!!" I did not believe it at first, so I asked, "What kind of vampire?" She said, "It just means the general 'Vampire'."

I found that amusing.

Man this semester is taking a toll on me. Well if my name was Dracula I guess I'd actually feel pretty special. It is kind of a coincidence that your name means vampire in a different language. I wonder what chris means in Israeli.... Or chinese for that matter.
