Well, I was wondering which may be the origins of the Gates.. After many years, after checking for something in the Greater Key of Solomon, guess what I found which quite surprised me:

(IMG:http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4628/moongateswu7mc7.jpg)

These two veeeery similar-looking Moon Gates.

What troubles me a bit, is that the Greater Key explains the current Gate as a symbol to which no door can remain locked, which of course sounds silly, while as within the Necronomicon, it has a more esoteric-transmuting role.

What do you think about that and generally of the similarity of these two Gates?

Has anyone seen any other similar Gates to the ones used in Necronomicon?

Imagine the work you could do, if no door within you could remain locked before your will to open it...

peace

http://bp2.blogger.com/_V10ih2CkDDw/SAO8pK...o/s1600-h/4.jpg

Here we can see the Eight-Rayed Crown of Anu (top left seal, at the very top), and in two of the other seals we can see one form of BANDAR turned upside-down (top right seal, eastern quadrant; bottom left seal, first of three on eastern quadrant). On the bottom right seal we see the mysterious "3"-like sign given on as the middle symbol on the Frontlet Of Calling (look towards the far left at the bottom of the triangle in the center of the double circle), and in numerous places we can see the also enigmatic "W"-like symbol found on numerous gates and their seals as well as the Mandal of Calling and on some of the Directional Gates.

On these seals most of the symbols appear upside-down or, if oriented as we see them in the Necronomicon, there's some minor difference. "Upside-down" is a matter of perspective... and intent. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
(IMG:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d6/Seven_seals.jpg)

See how many familiar symbols you spot there, on an image portraying seals of the Archangels. Not only do we see similarities between those and sigils found in the Necronomicon, but we also see traces of Goetic seals, the phony "John Dee Necronomicon", the likewise phony Tyson "Necronomicon", Turner's "R'lyeh Text", and HPL's own "Cipher Text Called the Necronomicon". Some of these Archangel sigils, when broken down, hold pieces of sigils found on the Simon Necro's gates. Symbols or sigils that even Simon, as the editor himself, is at a loss to explain.

(IMG:http://www.renaissanceastrology.com/images/jupiter-mirror1.jpg)

The above talisman of Jupiter shares much in common with both the gate and gate seal of Lord Marduk. Too many symbols to compare without getting a headache, actually.

Mirror the first few strokes of Archangel Michael's sigil here and what do you have? BANDAR, of course (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The Sixth and Seventh books of Moses contain a similar number of symbols which appear in the Necro and other grimoires.http://www.esotericarchives.com/moses/67moses.htm

http://kimbasangels.com/listed.html contains a list of "Fallen Angels" according to one branch of Christianity or another. Sometimes I see these "fallen angels" and think how like Sam's Choice sodas they are: watered-down versions of something else entirely. Interestingly enough we have several Goetics listed, both Astaroth and Ashtoreth who were composites or derivatives of Ishtar, Dagon - who I could've sworn was made up by Lovecraft - and even Thammuz! Thammuz, for f*ck's sake, who could only be Tammuz AKA Dumuzi, beloved of Ishtar-Inanna. Even HE is a demon, apparently. But that's a whole other can of worms... and par for the course anyway, considering they have Astaroth and Ashtoreth listed to begin with.

No offense to anyone who works for Sam's Choice, btw.

Anyway, my point is religions have a tendency to cannibalize one another over centuries. The symbology we associate with one religion may just be a mutation of another, earlier-existing belief system if we look closely enough.

two halves of a whole, would you say?

set up perhaps so some balance is maintained between the halves, when one works with one half, the other half goes the other way to compensate and maintain balance

a-ha! - could one work in the real world of the whole versus the half?

wholistic even

just my 2cents, you can give them to nanshe if you don't want them

I was re-reading this topic. Where is the following image from? I find it quite interesting.
