Okay. My girlfriend and I both live with each other and sleep in the same room together. Quite recently we've taken up to recording our dreams and any strange things that we both might experience when falling asleep or slowly waking up. The very first night we implemented this recording system, something odd had occurred. We both had relatively long dreams which isn't very normal to us, that seemed to coincide with each other on a big scale, sharing certain aspects and ideas. This has happened to us in the past at least two times that we know of.

We've pretty much ruled out any normal circumstances that would make this occurrence make more sense to us so we're kinda left just wondering.

There were certain discrepancies between our dreams, however the plot and scenario took an almost identical pattern.

Instead of looking for a meaning of the dreams themselves, I was looking for more of an explanation as to how or why something like this occurs. Before this occurrence, I had never heard of people sharing the same dream on the same night in such detail, so I can't really begin to fathom where to start in explaining this to myself.

Anyone know anything about this?

You and your girl share similar waking lives right? I mean you live around the same neighborhood maybe attend the same school. You said you live together so your surroundings are similar. Because of this, especially since you both started paying attention to your dreams at the same time, its only normal that many of the elements in your dreams overlap and seem very much alike.

In my opinion in the cases of couples or loved ones in general there is a stronger psychic bond between them that allows people who are close to share visions and dreams that are very much alike. It just comes down to where do you want to go with this. As you record your dreams more and more you'll find that its easier to not only remember details but even have greater awareness while dreaming. And you'll probably start to have some more and more lucid dreams. Its not a bad thing. It could be a way for you and your girl to increase the strength of the bond you have in your relationship. Although, a word of caution, when you go beyond the physical and into the more metaphysical you are working with bonds that are on a different level. If you get really close to your girlfriend and break up these bonds will also break and it will cause a great deal of damage to you spiritually and psychically - not that break ups don't do that any way. The point is if you don't see yourself being with your girl in the next 5 years maybe stake out a bit more independence with your dreams. Otherwise explore! Enjoy! Have fun with it! Maybe try to have sex in your dreams or go walk on the moon together or go sky diving over the Amazon. Your imagination is the limit.

Similarities (maybe saying the same thing at the same time... doing the same hand gesture, etc) happens quite a bit with couples (or in fact anyone) who spends a lot of time together in real life. This is called complicitae, ie: knowing what someone else is going to be doing... without actually knowing if you know what I mean.

Maybe, like the above post stated, you share this complicitae with your partner even in the dream world. You are especially lucky if your partner is as open to ideas of dream symbology as you are. Do try exploring. If your dreams get more lucid and so do your partners, try meeting each other in dreams.

However I also agree with the caution: If it's not serious... I would seriously reconsider! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/prop.gif)
