I know dragon will probably win in a landslide but let's see by how much. If you choose other please state in the thread which animal/creature you would like to incarnate as.

Realllllly? Welllllll, I guess I must have missed that thread.

Phoenix in the early lead, quite a surprise to me really. I personally voted for unicorn.

C'mon you dragon lovers, I know you're out there, vote now!

LOL!
It was a tough call....I picked Phoenix. I'm leaving a decidedly Draconian phase so I picked the Fire Bird, Bennu! I was also leaning heavily towards Gryphon. Maybe next time...

All right whose been clowning around? I specifically stated that if you voted for other that you should post what 'other' you had voted for! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/00000064.gif)

I think if 20 more votes get cast then dragon will win, but phoenix isn't really a surprising choice.

It's practically a waste of a vote when a person votes 'other' then isn't kind enough to post which 'other' is the preferred creature. -sigh-

People please! When you vote other please be so kind as to enlighten the rest of us on which mytholigical creature you would desire to be.

A quick google revelas a Kitsune is a fox? hope i'm correct.

Wouldn't consider it mythological, but then again I know people who swear dragons aren't mythological either (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bigwink.gif)

Personal preference if not Wyvern then Yun-Long.

As for phoenix, it is the female mate of dragons though one would think it Jiao-Long or Li-Long.

Felicitations Master Bym,

My source for saying that Phoenix is female mate of dragon would be Mistress Lin and Mistress Li, both of whom are from China and oddly enough somewhat conversant with Oriental dragons and their lore. That and a bit of perusal through translated Chinese texts.

While Jiao-Long and Li-Long are both female dragons, they are generally homeless residents of lakes, marshes, or other deserted areas and are often considered either evil or of shadowed influence.

Phoenix on the other hand is the symbol of female regeneration and the continuity of life.

Should there be any other interrogatives please feel free.

Damn you people! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evil2.gif) Six votes for other and not a single person posts what the hell this other that they voted for is, next time I shant be so democratic! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/diablo.gif)

Gl3 would you care to tell us what text this information comes from? I know that there are many phoenix myths out there and primarily the phoenix is not the female mate of dragons. There's no truly right answer and the idea that phoenix is the mate of dragons lends some depth to the myths and it also piques my curiousity since I seem to remember knowing this information but can't remember anything past that.

If one does a Google search on "Oriental dragons", "Chinese dragons", or "Japanese dragons" it should pull up a number of different results. Try "Chinese dragons phoenix" in the same string.

I also discussed the subject with people who are from China, mainland. One still lives there. Neither Mistress Lin nor Mistress Li know each other and what they allowed was pretty much as what I found on my own.

If I could read Chinese and could afford to go there on my nickel I would do both, since that isn't possible...

One thing to remember about legends and mythological creatures, that which is know to one sphere of influence is not always identical to those known elsewhere. Even more important to remember is that things change even more once factor in elsewhen.

One good example of preceding is cockatrice and basilisk--once two very different creatures but over time people began to lump them together and describe them as the same.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he's referring to the traditional Chinese (and perhaps Japanese) belief that the Dragon and Phoenix together bring good luck. You will find the pair together on many things. I believe it's also used to symbolize marriage, in which case the Dragon would be the "male" and the Phoenix the "female".

Using the word mate I don't believe he meant in the context of consort, but more along the lines of in Chinese tradition they are depicted together.

Having worked as a phoenix in my life for a few years, I am actively working on bring the various dragon energies to the for front. At the very least I have seen that I need fewer 'fire extinguishers' to grabe at a moments notice.

Dragons get work done, while having the option to sleep and not be disturbed more then other critters.

Master Beltaine,

You are in part correct. In Chinese tradition the dragon and phoenix together do bring luck. From things read and from what both Mistress Lin and Mistress Li stated from the Chinese versions they read, there are tales where the phoenix literally is the dragon's mate and/or consort.

Per that tradition almost all dragons are male, the two differences being the aforemention Jiao-Long and Li-Long which are both female types.

There is of course the possibility that I've not the wit to accurately convey what I read, though that is a chance that I don't lend much credence. It would likely be better if you do the same type searches and encounter what you will. T'would not be the first time that I was mistaken in my belief on a subject.

Enjoy the journey...

Kitsune means Fox in Japanese. I think perhaps she was refering to A fox Demon like Shippou from the anime series Inu-Yasha?
