Someone asked me if i knew why you would use a mirror for divinition or even sending thought forms or energy to other people. Does this have any metaphorical relevance at all?

Thanks.

Personally I like using walls to do stuff with have no idea if it wouldnt work as well though.

Because the Macrocosm reflects the Microcosm. A mirror reflects your image, and in the metaphysical sense, reflects the rest of the universe outside yourself.

A colored mirror of some sort is best, because it tints the world beyond it in a particular spectrum of energy, like a particular dimension. Black mirrors are used as a sort of catch-all divination, but I have also worked with blue, red, and white mirrors for more specific purposes. Depends on what you need and what the colors mean to you.

peace

I prefer two large mirrors across from each other. Many ways to travel and good for scrying.
HMMM you prefer a wall for divination? Guess i missed that?

Macrocosm and microcosm is an ancient Greek schema of seeing the same patterns reproduced in all levels of the cosmos. It may have begun with Democritus in the 5th century B.C. or with Pythagoras and is a philosophical conception that runs through Socrates, and Plato and through to the Renaissance. With Pythagoras, the discovery of the golden ratio and its philosophical conception called the Golden mean, the Greeks saw that this golden ratio is repeated in all parts of the ordered universe both large and small. The Greeks were very concerned with a rational explanation of everything and saw this repetition of the golden mean as a pattern that was reproduced throughout reality. It is a product of the ancient Greek mentality of seeing reality as a whole and noticing patterns that are repeated throughout all the levels of reality. In short, it is the recognition that the same traits appear in entities of many different sizes, from one man to the entire human population.

Macrocosm/microcosm is a Greek compound of μακρο- "Macro-" and μικρο- "Micro-", which are Greek respectively for "large" and "small", and the word κόσμος kósmos which means "order" as well as "world" or "ordered world".

There is no metaphorical relevance. metaphysical yes. The idea is literal. And does work very well in case you wondered. I prefer a crystal or a still water myself.

Simply put,

Microcosm = the order within you (Man)
Macrocosm = the order of the Universe (God).

The famous Hermetic axiom “as above, so below” pretty much sums up the relationship between the two. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Some could say that mirrors reflect the dead, not too sure what this would mean to you. First thing i thought about it were that it reflects the other side, of ourselves too.

You don't really have to use a mirror - traditionally used as it is spectacular. The same principle applies to crystal gazing - a refllective surface is easier to handle but you can use anything - try a leaf or an acorn or the backside of a violin. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bigwink.gif)

Think of the macrocosm as the universe that you and I and all else exists in and the microcosm as the univserse that exists within you yourself. The microcosm is a part of subtle reality. A reality who's nature is a sort of sub-reality. Its not as direct as the one we exist in yet we can affect it in ways that create direct changes in our macrocosmic lives.

A mirror acts like a door way between the two. It exists within the macrocosm yet reflects light and other forms of energy to your eyes, allowing one to see into their own microcosm or out into the macrocosm. Therefore, using a mirror, one is able to see (as in divine the properties of either) and project energy from one to the other and there by see into time and space or create change - cause magick to happen.

With meditation we try to clean the mind from thoughts and achieve emptyness,in the beggining of the process thoughts in mind is like waves on the wild ocean...after some minutes meditation, this wild sea becomes a calm crystal lake, and then works like a mirror in wich we can see the reflection of our inner world more clear...
Mirrors are used in magic and tricks to give an ilussion to the eye,if we put mirrors up, down, left, right, front, behind,we can see beyond the 3 dimensions,it is like we enter in the 4rth dimension,we can see everything around us...
U can even meditate with a mirror just by looking ur eyes intense deep...and try to see the depthness of ur mind...I think that u can awake more conciousnes by looking on the mirror meditating, and learn more about the secret sides of ur self..
I have experienced some minutes looking intense in the mirror with a candle lighten, and started to see my face changing,a cloud appeard around my face and happy faces, ungry faces...etc apeard in font of my face, I felt that I started to meet my egos...but after few minutes started to get scared, as I was starting seeing the dark sides of my character...
