I've been working on using the Song of Praises to create a psalmody for the Ogdoadic tradition - creating a sort of Hermetic Divine Office, after the Catholic Liturgy of the Hours.

I was curious as to what others have used the Song of Praises for, besides its inclusion in the published rituals of several Orders.

If you're unfamiliar with the Song of Praises, it can be found here:

Ave

I would be very interested in seeing your work once you are finished with it. I practice in the Ogdoadic Tradition also and have used the Song of Praises mostly for meditation purposes, but regretably, not much else.

Here is an excerpt from what I've worked on so far, concerning a Hermetic Divine Office. It includes the entire office to be said for Morning Prayer of Sundays (sol) during the days of Cancer (6.22 - 7.22)

The Common

Morning Prayer (Lauds)

Calyx - Sub Rosa Nigra
Setting of the Wards of Power - Sub Rosa Nigra
Clavis Rei Primae
Morning Prayer from the Proper of the Zodiac
Rite from the Proper of Planets
Casmen III
Calyx Sub Rosa Nigra

Proper of the Zodiac

Morning

Ant. :Chaos is close at our gates: sure be the wall, strong the citadel!
- O Holy One, Knouphis, rise in thy splendor, A.
Soar as a song upon the dewy rays of dawn, A.
Chase away the darkness of my soul A.
Stir my inner self to the conquest of illusion A.
Awaken in me the Diadem of Light A.

Proper of Planets

Invoking Heptagram of Sol
The LEO Posture
Oh divine ONOPHIS, thou who are the ambrosia and nectar,
the food and drink of the gods,
You who dwell in the blood red city of the Sun,
The Union of the Divine Light :

Rise in thy splendour, O King! -- glorious brow,
gaze on thy governance
Gladdening all who behold! Soaring as song,
rule and illuminate:
Crysoleth gleaming thy crown, rise and inspire,
Lion-gold, Falcon-flight,
Joyous, ambrosial!

Thou Archon PYLOROS, you who are the gatekeeper,
Come now thou Warder of the Sun,
Frighten and Scare away the Dark :

Rise in thy splendour, O King! -- glorious brow,
gaze on thy governance
Gladdening all who behold! Soaring as song,
rule and illuminate:
Crysoleth gleaming thy crown, rise and inspire,
Lion-gold, Falcon-flight,
Joyous, ambrosia
l!

Would love to hear any thoughts on the structure so far. I'm worried that its too closely resembling a ritual working, as opposed to a meditative prayer. The goal of performing the office is to develop an awareness of the Planetary and Zodiacal forces, as well as building a familiarity with these powers, so that a stronger connection may be formed during actual ritual practice.
