Greetings! Yup! Golems are definitely interesting! There is alot of good literature out there, fictional and non-. There's a good kids book called"the Golems Eye"....i think that's what it's called. (I love childrens books, etc.) I think that it has always been a dream of mine...to make and animate a golem. Instead I learned how to create an 'elementarie' ala Bardon. There was no turning back...*sigh* The Homunculus will be found, initially, in the works of Alchemy. Check out the Library and read up! Also, if you decide to try making a 'Servitor' ala Hines/Carrol, please read the Bardon also and really try to understand the morality of the situation before running off and generating astral sludge for fun and profit! Thanks greatly for the link to the Golem sight, as the legend of the first Golem has fascinated me since my father told it to me as a child. I found it intristing that the one thing we could not grant to the golem was divine speech, which almost puts a new emphasis on the power of the spoken word. Thanks Kinjo, the link will provide me with endless entertainment, though as I recall in the legend it took the Rabbi as well as two gifted students to perform the operation, and being a solitary practioner doesn't offer me to much promise, but I welcome more sources on the subject. †Christopher Raven† (IMG: style_emoticons/default/mf_bookread.gif)

When I was studying the Tetragrammaton...well, its been an on off obsession since my dad told me about the power of the true name of god. I came across a specific...wait...I still have that book...please hold.... (IMG: style_emoticons/default/mf_bookread.gif) HERE IT IS!! TETRAGRAMMATON: the Secret to Evoking Angelic Powers and the Key to the Apocalypse By Donald Tyson. (I found this book beyond invaluable in my library, and its one of the first books I contributed (most were my fathers books)) Page 39-42 It goes over the legend of the Prague Golem of 1580 by Rabbi Loew in a fair amount of detail...its the one I was referring to earlier. For some reason I thought it was in one of the Magreggor Kabbalah books....If anyone is intristed in the specifics email me, and I'll type it out, the subject holds endless fascination to me, but to type it out here would take up quite a bit of space.... †Christopher Raven† (IMG: style_emoticons/default/mf_popeanim.gif) ‡POPY‡ †The Unofficial Mascot†

QUOTE(DocHolliday @ Sep 30 2005, 10:15 PM) I am currently unaware of any extant Hebrew MSS which detail the requisite work for creating a golem. However, I can certainly say that the process by which one is made cannot be performed by a solitary practicioner. The system set down in Sefer Yetzirah is used for creating golems. In fact, the very act of studying the text (in groups) actually creates a golem for you. A golem is made up on earth, clay, or in other words the stuff of Assiah. It's specifically designed to cause change in the world, though it's not made of physical clay. It's something like a servitor, but on a much broader scale. Sefer Yetzirah is an initiatory text, meaning it actually works in you and changes your subconscious mind. It arranges your entire mind into concept-groups symbolized in the Letters of the Hebrew Alef-beit. Each letter has its own spiritual meaning, meditation on which will manifest corresponding events into your subjective life. Combining and permuting the letters together brings about strings of small manifested changes, all ordered in different ways in order to bring about larger changes - words. A golem is fully formed when all of the letters have been permuted with each other, which is the meaning of the 231 Gates. It takes YEARS of study and experimentation with Sefer Yetzirah before you're capable of controlling the system in any meaningful way. All that said, it's definitely worth the effort. Kaplan's commentary is the best, and like I said, you have to work in groups. Paul
