Hi there! The Seventy-second Spirit in order is named Andromalius. He is an Earl, great and mighty, appearing in the form of a man holding a great serpent in his hand. His office is to bring back both a thief, and the stolen goods; to discover all wickedness, and underhanded dealings; and to punish all thieves and other wicked people; and also to discover hidden treasures. He rules over 36 Legions of Spirits. I was metal detecting in the U.K over Christmas without much luck so decided to see if the Goetia would make any difference. I copied Andromalius's sigil onto paper and carried it in my back pocket whilst metal detecting. I told him I wanted to find some gold (IMG: style_emoticons/default/greedy.gif) , to which he replied 'o.k, no problem'. I told him I would give him fame in return, meaning a post like this. I went into the field he told me to and literally within minutes found my first bit of gold (IMG: style_emoticons/default/dance2.gif) , merely a pen top tho. I told him then that I wanted a ring. He again said o.k and told me that i should have said so in the first place. An hour later, lo' and behold I dug up my first gold ring!! It is fairly old band ring with roses and ivy across it, very nice indeed. After asking him if he could help me find a big lump of gold, he kinda got a bit annoyed at me reminding me that he had done what I had asked of him, which I agreed. I kept the Sigil in my back pocket and a few days later I found a silver ring after asking for one. So, all in all he responded extremely well, to which I am thankful. However, later in that day a big argument happened which involved a family member. This argument ended up unveiling a few underhand thoughts etc that I'm not going to go into further. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/06.gif) Maybe I should have told him that I only required help with finding treasure, not discovering underhand/dishonest dealings. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/doh.gif) I am now left with his Sigil. How do I dispose of it in a respectful manner without hurting Andromalius? Thanks in Advance Luna

Hi Grab I didn't follow the Goetia to the letter. Basically I meditated upon what I wanted and then actually verbalised this to Andromalius as I drew the sigil, reminding him of my divinity. When I was out in the field I found I could ask him questions and he would answer immediately. I thanked him after finding the gold, however, I only gave him license to depart and performed lbrp after the huge row erupted. He didn't seem to mind tho, in-fact he has been very pleasant throughout. Is license to depart and lbrp necessary if just working with Sigils in this way? Should I have done anything differently in your experience? Thanks for such a fast reply (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) e2a I forgot to draw Solomon's seal on the reverse side of Andromalius's Sigil. Maybe this contributed towards the unwanted effects, maybe I should've stated what I didn't require of him also. What should I do with his seal drawn on the paper? Always giving the license to depart along with some form of banishing ritual is simply good magical safety. After all, you wear your seatbelt every time you get in a car, right? Think about it this way--from their point of view, a formal dismissal is basically letting them punch out the time clock at the end of the day. It frees them up to go do other things. Should you need to summon them again, you can always specify something along the lines of, 'Come back when I call you, even if I don't do a full-dress ritual.' They'll usually comply. But yeah, make sure the sign of Solomon is on the back of the sigil. Goetic entities are a random and wily lot, and the seal does help to keep them honest and compliant. Andromalius seems to be one of the most honest and cheerful of the 72, but I'd still follow basic protocols.
As for discovering underhanded dealings, I've found with the spirits the old adage 'in for a penny, in for a pound' is very much true. Many times those auxiliary 'benefits' may seem like a PITA at the time they kick in but often make life much easier in the long run, as they're usually stuff you'd need to deal with anyway. Problems usually are best killed when they're young. So this is something you might want to keep in mind as well. If they become bothersome, call him back and tell him that the help was appreciated, but inappropriate at this time, so you'd really like it if he could stick to the given commands for the time being. If he feels he needs to solve something on your behalf you can tell him to give you some sort of sign or warning first so you have at least a rough idea of when/how things will hit the fan.
As for what to do with the sigil, you can hang on to it or you can burn it. If you summoned him for a one-off deal it may be better to burn it. If you want to keep him in your service for a while, you can remake the seal from something more permanent then burn the paper one as it's no longer necessary. It's ultimately your call.
On the whole, though, it sounds like everything went well. There's more than one way to summon an entity, and it sounds like you hit on a method that works for you. Good luck with everything, and keep us posted in case anything else interesting develops.

Traditionally burning the seal is a means of punishing the spirit. I would think simply keeping it wrapped in white or black silk should be sufficient, as long as a formal dismissal is made. Black silk is preferable, but naturally more difficult to find. Some simple wooden or metal box with the seal of solomon marked upon the lid would also suffice.
Understand that while this goetic spirit may come easily and be amiable, not all the goetic spirits are so friendly - although some of them are, and are inclined to be more or less amiable due to a number of personal factors in yourself. I'm glad this initial experience has turned out well, so it would seem - beware of the wolf in sheep's clothing, however. It is not unheard of for a spirit to be kind initially and then bring a world of hurt somewhere down the road.
Take precautions is all I am saying. Solomon may have been prejudiced, or he may have been very wise in his dealings with them - maybe he had a superiority complex, or maybe he had experience. Who knows...
peace

The world is complicated - that which makes it up is elegantly simplistic, but infinitely versatile.

Well said and well warned. That having been said: I've found that the wolf in sheep's clothing bit tends to show up when people become too obsessed with Goetia and begin to rely on it for every little thing. That's not *always* the case, but it's usually the pattern. I deal with these entities only when I need the really big guns and nothing else has worked. This is *rarely.* When I do deal with them, I make certain that I take everything they say with a grain of salt (at minimum!), then test everything they say. Too many people think entities always tell the truth and then they get burned. Spirits of any type often lie to make themselves look better in the eyes of the magician, and this can also foster dependence on the spirit in the unwary. That is not a good situation, and it often requires a good deal of willpower to break free. Best advice is not to get in that situation to begin with. Moral of the story: make sure you follow good magical protection/safety procedures and keep your wits about you. Checking your critical thinking skills at the door is an open invitation for trouble. Thanks for that piece of advice Vagrant Dreamer. I'm kinda glad you mentioned the burning part. Burning his seal didn't feel quite right after thinking about it, especially when I am unable presently to make a more permanent one. I reckon I'll leave things how they are for now. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) unless I come across some black/white silk. All in all it's been quite a positive experience. Thanks Grab, DarkMage and Vagrant Dreamer for your words of wisdom. Luna

QUOTE(Grab @ Jan 14 2009, 05:26 PM) LunaShadow,
I am curious if this was the first time you ever worked with any spirit, or the first time with a Goetia one, or the first time with this particular spirit? It would make better background to understand your result, I think.
I must apologise for taking so long to reply to you Grab. In answering your questions it was my first time working with a Goetic spirit. I have had quite a few previous occult experiences, although this was the first time i attempted directly to contact such a spirit. My approach was fairly basic. Having drawn his sigil, I recited the Bornless ritual then merely began to speak to him whereupon he answered. A few weeks ago I went metal detecting again. I had Andromalius's sigil with me again. Although I hadn't recited the Bornless ritual I asked him if this time he could help me find a large ring, adding for it to be gold. I found lumps of nondescript metal all afternoon, but at the end of detecting, just as I was about to pack things up, a bit frustrated, I hit a signal. I dug deep, removing lots of earth and cutting through a root or two, only to find a huge ring - about 9 inches in diameter. After brushing away the earth, i realised it was rusty iron. I heard him chuckle as i was looking at it.
