I just recently read somewhere about active and passive pentagrams.

the passive were you imagined as bluish colors and thast about it.
the active ones you traced in appropriate color (maybe red for fire or whatever) and also maybe placed the sign for fire in the middle of it.

Can anyone elaborate and explain more about this? I've used different techniques with and without these conditions but never figured anything about passive or active about them, just used however i felt like, so if anyone could explain more about this i could play more with rituals that require these.

It has to do with the 5 points of the pentagram.
Each point is asociated with one of the four elements.

I will try to make an image of it, because its hard to put into words.

I don't think I understand your question. The only active and passive pentagrams there are is the one for spirit. This is because fire and air are active while water and earth are considered passive.

But for some reason I do not think this is what you are asking about. Are you asking abotu the different elemental pentagrams and how they are formed?

Thank you, i await with anticipation. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

As for the one element for each point, i know this.

It's just that i read on OF somewhere that sometimes you do an active pentagram for earth (or fire or whichever) and sometimes you do it passive, it depends on what and how you use.
And when he used the passive it was just plain and when it was active he put the earth symbol in the middle of the pentagram and traced it (in his mind) with appropriate color.

and, i dont understand whats active and passive about it, thats why im asking

I heard that fire + air were active before but didnt really remember it until now, can you explain why tho? (and the same goes for earth + water)

What i'm asking about, well, i'm not sure.

"What is an active / passive pentagram?" i guess.

I know how to trace them without symbols and with and i can switch colors and do all kinds of stuff, but what makes a pentagram active or passive?

Or was it just a goof on OF that posted and didnt really have any substance in what he was saying? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/13.gif)

When concerning the pentagrams there are only considered active or passive when it comes to the ones for spirit.

The Invoking Spirit Active pentagram is formed by starting at Fire and coming up to Air.
The Invoking Spirit Passive Pentagram is formed by starting at Earth and coming up to Water. The banishing pents are done in reverse of course.

As for the elemental pentagrams they are only formed one way and either invoke the element or banish it. The colors or symbols added does not matter. Only the element themselves are considered active or passive and they are always so. Fire and Air are active. That is their nature. Water and Earth are passive, that is also their nature. A little reflection upon the elements themselves will reveal why this is so.

I hope this helps.
