Music is very instrumental in Magic(k). It is said that hearing, the sense, is related to the 'element' of spirit. (whoever thought that since there was five senses that there must be 5 elements...a crossover from Eastern esoterica, methinks...) Like its more potent cousin, smell, hearing evokes all sorts of emotions. Emotions equate with various reactions that are energy. How we utilize this energy is very subjective...but it should be stated that, physiologically, vibration does have some very definative effects. Sound, of course, is vibration. VitalWinds, you have the right of it...you'll find that combining music with your 'Magic(k)/psychism can and will accentuate the results! A shamanic technique is to utilize drums, click sticks or other percussive implements to facilitate their trance states/induction. I've found that various sound cuts from contemporary musicians like Tangerine Dream and The Dead Can Dance quite good at helping me into the 'mood'! (I recommend groups both highly!)
What kind(s) of music do you find conducive with your work?

I have found that fast eurobeat and mystical Goa sounds tend to have the greatest effects for me. Eurobeat is glitzy, and has high energy with dazzling arpeggios. Goa has a very outer-spacey sound to it. Eurobeat Example (Flashman - Flash in the Night) Goa Example (Man With No Name - Big Troubles In Outer Space (Oforia Remix)) (especially picks up at 1:59!) QUOTE(VitalWinds @ Jan 8 2010, 02:55 AM) Seems like I can always easily access a lot of energy when I'm listening to a song that I can really get into. Just me, or what?
I sing a lot, I'm in a band as the guitarist and backup singer, and I can honestly say that while rehearsing a song sometimes I unintentionally make the wind move to the rhythm of the song - when the energy of the song gets higher, so does the wind speed. Energy in music is very useful - some High Magick writers claim that certain notes even have correlations to certain elements or entities.

My favourite piece of music to listen to during magical workings is the second movement from Vivalid's Autumn, the third movement from Vivaldi's Winter can be a great piece to listen to depending on my mood and the work I'm doing, and I've also found Daquin's Le Cocou very stimulating to listen to as well! Personally, I tend to find music with vocals of any sort too distracting to listen to in magical workings, so I stick to instrumental pieces. That's just my personal preference though.
