Just A Tad Bit Um.. Scared?, Scary encounters and readings Options

I'll start with scary encounters.. I was over at my friend's house for a sleepover party with some other friends of ours, and because most of us believe in Spirits, we wanted to try figuring out who was in her new home (she said she had a spirit or spirits in her home) so she wouldn't be as scared. We used my pendulum to see if they were friendly and how many their were. We all went in another room so the non-believers wouldn't "mess it up" and sat in a little circle. One of my friends said she felt something rub against her neck (not her hair), another friend said someone slapped her in the lower back. I know they weren't lying because they smile if they do, but I could tell they were really scared. Then all of us at the same time felt like we were losing our breath and someone was running their fingers up our spines. We all got really scared and stopped. That was like at 2:30 in the morning and I'm still shivering from it and I feel like a spirit is following me around. Please help me with this, because even though my pendulum said the spirits were friendly, they weren't acting friendly, unless I'm wrong, but slapping someone's back isn't exactly polite...

Now, scary readings... I was reading into my whole dillemma, and kept coming across people on Y! Answers saying that the only spirits that you can contact are Demons. I'm afraid of spirits anyways, (because of my recent and second bad encounter) even though I've always wanted a spirit friend and to talk to my great-grandfather, whom I've never met. So could anyone possible help me with one or both of these? I'm really scared, and I would like to know if I am just getting worked up about nothing.

I would bet that the people saying any and all spirits are demons are Christian or some variant. It has become a popular Christian belief that any sort of spirit or occult work is intimately connected to Satan. Credit this as you will; it's my belief that demons are not the only type or spirit, nor are they necessarily fearful.

As for your experience, I don't have very much knowledge about spirits other than demons, but I will say it doesn't sound like any sort of demonic manifestation. Coldness, jokery, and creepiness are the exact opposite of what I personally have learned to expect.

My belief: spirits of any sort can't directly harm you; it's a rare (non-existent?) poltergeist that has more power than required to knock a lamp off a table. Consider how many cases you have read about wherein a supernatural manifestation actually killed someone. Granted, not all would be reported, but you'd think at least a couple would make the news.

One more conjecture: if you or your friends expected something like this to happen, even subconsciously, it could have easily been the cause. Or maybe it's a sort of spiritual bluff or practical joke, although I wouldn't know how probable that is. My experience lies in grimoire (i.e., Goetic) magic, so if I was truly worried, I might try a banishing from the Goetia or the 6th & 7th Books of Moses. Those are specifically for demons, but they call upon holy powers and I feel they should work.

You could also try putting together a ritual on-the-spot; Vagrant Dreamer has a great post on the components of magic. Constructing your own rituals is beneficial in that you can better understand why it's going to work.

Others here can probably give you shorter banishings, as I know they exist. Finally, check out here for more opinions.

The spirit you encountered could've been just playing a joke on you. Spirits will have personalities just like the living. You could try asking your pendulum if what you felt the spirit doing to you and your friends was a joke, but it's really up to you if you want to ask or not.
Now with the Y! Answers. I personally believe that every time you contact a spirit, it could be a Demon or a more..friendlier spirit. If your going to contact a spirit, think in a positive mind and do whatever you feel to make you feel protected. (prayers, protection circles, etc.) The links Vilhjalmr posted should help you also^^
