So I'm assuming that most people here practice magick and have, by years of practice, gained a few abilities on the way. What are some of the abilities you've acquired along the way? What are some of the abilities you feel you were born with?

Hi Shallimar Fox and welcome to the forum

You can certainly ask, but you might want to check out some of the threads here. Here are a couple for example. There probably are more if you want to use your search function.

Perhaps you are wondering whether or not this sort of thing is real. It is, but generally magic spells work by increasing the probabilities of a certain outcome, so it often can't be proven to be anything other than coincidence. There are other abilities of course that you may be able to do at will such as psychic abilities, but they may not be provable. You may not be concerned about proving anything and are confident of the validity of occult phenomena. Then you might get a lot of responses. People like to talk about themselves and their accomplishments. lol I do energy work, primarily healing, but I do have out of body experiences and various kinds of shamanic experiences. Most healing energy work is undramatic and only involves speeding healing, lessening pain and allowing the body to heal itself, but a few times I've pulled off what people might call miracles. I believe that I do have a modicum of a natural gift for these things, but have had to work a lot to develop it.

You will find that people here come from a lot of different traditions and have different areas of expertise, yet there are commonalities to much of it. I find it fascinating and have learned something of various occult disciplines here that I didn't know much about before. It has encouraged me to widen my studies and maybe has kept me from getting into to much of a rut.

Goibniu, that's the best quick intro to practical magick I've ever seen. My experiences have been similar. Note that while we have theoretical models for how magick works any practicing magickian either understands that they are all incomplete or limits their own results with restrictions based on unsubstantiated belief, not reality.

Shallimar Fox, I've often wondered if differences in "innate ability" are based on psychological factors, not physical limits. I've seen everyone from children to elderly, after being trained in an energy model-based healing technique, all show the ability to enormously speed healing. I've also never seen anyone in a magickal group who was totally unable to bias "coincidence". In my experience it appears to be a general human ability.

I was born with the ability to shit. I developed eyesight, hearing and smell along the way but shitting I'm pretty good at.

I have noticed that energy work based inborn abilities seem to have to do with the person's nervous system. This is of course my humble opinion. I've noticed that the 'naturals' are those with good, healthy nervous responses and probably outgoing personalities. There are exceptions though (there always are). Some people develop best after having undergone a crisis of some sort. Perhaps a partial explanation is that the crisis has caused them to buckle down and work harder. It is hard to say for sure. You've heard of people going through a crisis then becoming a shaman, for instance. I bases this on observation of people's behaviour, plus how I read their nerves. I'm still formulating the ideas in my mind, working them out.

Also, yes magical spells seem to follow the path of least resistance. When they work they do so as efficiently as possible in the terms of effort required, so they find the easiest way, the weak spot--which is also the one that it the most probable and the easiest explainable. It is like water flowing and meandering through the cracks and crevices. It finds its way but doesn't try to flow uphill.
