QUOTE(Praxis @ Mar 27 2006, 12:09 PM) Okay.
Salvia Divinorum.
Could member here who acutally have used this tool for stimulating awareness please share some accurate explanations for what exactly the beneficial effect is? Salvia divinorum, when smoked as an extract - I'll agre with Bym here, the leaves have NEVER managed to get me anywhere; actually, i believe something like sixty fresh leaves were chewed by the mexican shamans - has always given me a sense of weightlessness which can be incredibly disorienting if you try to stand up, walk around, etc. I've had two really intense salvia trips using 20x extract. It should be noted that these experience are VERY briefly paraphrased, because salvia trips occur in more than the standard 4 dimensions of perception. Freaky freaky. The first trip, three deep hits from a water pipe, started out by giving me a sensation of pins and needles all over my skin. Not an unpleasant tingling, although it did have a peak intensity in which I really thought I might need to scratch every inch of my body intently.. resisting the urge, however, I laid back onto my pile of cushions and watched the shadows from the candle light play over my walls, altar, etc. almost as soon as I turned my attention from my body, I felt like I was slipping sideways, specifically to the left, and actually, visually, saw the room change angle with me. I was instantly out of body. After that I looked intently at my altar and found that there was a kind of 'tear' in the structure of it. So, I moved forward into the altar, and through the tear, and found myself in a long, long hallway with many doors of all sorts of different decorations, shapes, sizes, symbols, and sensations. I managed to examine three doors before I felt the call back to my body, and the end of the trip. They were all large doors with words written on them in some kind of dream language that was more like writing with a collection of sensory details than an alphabet. Hard to accurately convey. Each of the doors turned out to be entrances to three different aspects of my magickal persona (worth noting that I did this first trip with the intention of understanding magick more thoroughly, it's practice, origin, purpose, etc.). The whole thing took maybe an hour of 'dreamtime' - popped back into my body, it was a five minute trip. Second trip, five deep hits, and this time I didn't actually 'leave' my body in the manner before, but rather the world around me just melted into another dimension. Probably the astral, but far more intense and alien than I have experienced on my own. I can't even describe it other than to say that the origins, and future states, of everything around me, kind of piled up so that I was experiencing non-linear time in my immediate environment. From inbetween all of that, I met an entity who constituted the concept of emotional expression. Our conversation was private and took place, again, in many extra dimensions, but that was the night that I overcame the brunt of my emotional baggage and finally started to feel. It was intense. While mushroom trips have been more intense, longer, and less phsyically debilitating, I have found that Salvia trips, both time, have been more constructive and powerful. Salvia will seriously bend time, and reality, completely out of context. The average trip is very fast in linear time. Five to ten minutes, tops. If you can surrender to the experience, you can spend hours in between dimensions before coming back. SanqueDiNapoli, if you're interested still, I have some extract that I don't intend on using anytime soon. I live in NYC as well, I'd be happy to give it to you. peace

And since Nightshade is in the topic title as well, I may as well talk about Datura Stramonium.
I had a datura trip about a year ago, maybe more - spring before last - and I would say that by and large, most people will not react well to a datura trip. It is intensely, deeply, mortally fightening, at least to me.
I smoked a datura cigarette, and drank a cup of tea. First of all, every tea made from any plant that isn't an herb or 'tea' leaf plant, will taste like dirty, mudcacked monkey a**. Just a heads up. No amount of honey will curb the aweful, aweful taste of datura tea. I smoked the leaves and flowers, and added three crushed, fresh seeds to the tea, along with leaves and flowers there as well.
The first sensation was nausea. That subsided, and became a full body numbness, but very light. At that point, I had begun a largely auditory trip. I sat in perfect pose on a cushion and closed my eyes to listen to what the sounds were saying. At first it was all good, things like, "you're going to enjoy this" and "Are you ready to play?" I heard things of this nature for a little while, and then all hell broke loose.
My heart rate skyrocketed, I couldn't seem to get enough air, my body wouldn't respond to my will - initially; with a monumental effort, I was able to pick myself up and turn on the AC, unlock the door, and scribble a barely legible note to leave on my dresser for my friends, should I die (at the time I was truly, mortally afraid of that, but at the same time felt I had a strong enough will to not die).
I fell bakcwards then onto my cushions, and laid there unmoving physically. I think I might have twitched a little. My physical senses began to recede, to the point where I was basically in a mild coma.
And that's when the real fun began, if you could call it that. the voices I had heard before had become more ominous and malevolent. I kept getting images of myself laying dead and cold on the beach of the lake I used to frequent before I came to NYC. There were shapes in the darkness around me, both immediately and in my visions, who were speaking to me in whispers. When i could single out one voice, it was always something generally interesting, but horrifying to hear. One of them was whispering to me about what would happen when i died - about how the world would be shut off from me, and I would have to walk through the darkness alone until I could find my way out. Another voice was kind of taunting me, telling me that I was prideful and that they would make short work of me if I thought I could fight them.
However, at one point during the trip, one of these shadows came forward, and seemed to be a bit more luminescent than the others, and it's voice was more gentle. I was floating amid a forest scene, being stalked by predators from every direction it seemed, but this one figure lifted me up in it's arms, and began to whisper in my ear that I was brave, and that my journey was almost finished, and it wanted to show me something before I left. We came to the water, like standing in the middle of the ocean, water forever in all directions, and the figure bid me to look down and I saw a pod of whales, and could hear them sing, except instead of the normal singing, this sound kind of embodied the entire history of the world. In those sounds, each vibration caused a reaction in my mind that took me to the dawn of man, forward through time examining the spiritual epochs, the moments of empowerment, every major advancement in Conciousness. I saw the crucifixion (but not the ressurection...) of Jesus, the bombs at hiroshima/nagasaki, my own birth, the moment my father left... all up until the moment i came to NYC, all packed into about ten minutes of dreamtime.
Then the figure that had saved me from the darkness lifted me up off of the water and into the sky, into space and the stars, and out across the universe to the very edge - into the darkness outside of the expanded universe, to turn around and look back at it, and it was TINY. I mean, just this pulsing light in the darkness, and ever since then I have never felt at all dwarfed by the universe, or the world, or other people, because I carred back with me the sense that the mind is truly bigger than the universe, than time. God is most certainly within.
After that I floated in the void, gazing at the universe, until I lost cognizance. I woke up the next morning feeling truly, truly aweful, but somewhat more enlightened.
I will probably never take datura again. However, it is an experience in confronting and standing against fear which has changed me for the better permanently, and while I can't say that everyone will have the same experience, it is most certainly a very powerful plant.
peace
