We have so many words for magical operations:
1.Summoning
2.Invocation
3.Evocation
4.Conjuration
5.Calling forth...
But what is transvocation? I encountered this term and it seems strange to me...

Greetings!
I will warn you from the onset that this will be lengthy. Please try not to use the quote function when responding unless you can use it sparingly...
I must admit that I had not heard of 'transvocation' before this thread was posted. I have been practicing for over 50 years...
I would, of course, think like Vagrant Dreamer when I crossed this word. We are partially correct from what I've managed to glean from the internet sites I've visited. I will leave this to you to slog through...it has some very salient points worth looking at! I don't happen to agree with it all and am hoping that this will spark some real debate/discussion. I will try to give credit where it is due and so on....now, to the subject at hand.
Transvocation

QUOTE
Transvocation - A method whereby the magician acts either as a conduit or a vector(carrier) and causes a godform (or demon or whatever) to A) inhabit an object or B) possess a person.

Some useful web sites that I Googled for "Transvocation":

This was taken from the TLOK website:

QUOTE
There are five mind-states that the Summoner utilizes in the execution of his art. The most fundamental and basic of these is disassociation, which involves the Summoner disidentifying with his usual egocentric personality structure, being able to observe it from a point of detachment. This both protects him from being bound in obsessions upon particular beings and gives him the flexibility of consciousness necessary for the other four states. The most important of the other four is what is known as ‘transvocation.’ This occurs when the Summoner identifies with a summoned entity rather than his own personality, but unlike full possession never results in loss of control or loss of consciousness. The Summoner simply gains access to the perspective and powers of the transvoked entity depending upon how successful and complete the transvocation is. The next two states are those best suited to classical evocation and invocation. In evocation, the Summoner adopts an entirely impersonal consciousness, and by shifting his perception, aligns his will with his environment in such a way as to facilitate the manifestation of an entity externally. In invocation, he aligns his consciousness in such a way that the entity manifests internally, within the mind. Having experienced these four altered conditions of consciousness, the Summoner will discover that what seems to most to be ‘normal’ consciousness is actually a fifth state called the Ipseic (from Latin Ipsus, meaning ‘self.’) The Ipseic state is the state of complete identification with a personality or point of view to the point of overcoming all disassociation. Experiencing the Ipseic state deliberately functions as a release of tension for the Summoner, as well as a supreme protection against potentially hostile influences.

This was taken from a Satanic styled website (please don't dismiss this as it is rather well thought out and is useful):
QUOTE
the Five States of Summoning
(revised, 1/11/06)

Summoning without ritual uses states of mind, similar to (psychic)trance,
to manifest and communicate with beings. This is called Direct Summoning
and it becomes a very usefull tool to use with all types of spiritual
beings.

Direct summoning does not make the demon obey under command; rather it
is more like an effort of co-operation with the demon, spirit or being
so that both may benefit from the interaction.

Demons, and other (spiritual) beings usually have a specific nature,
and thier nature is thier purpose. A demon is more likely to respond to
requests that are within thier ablility. For instance, a demon of lust
is more likely to handle "situatons of lust", because it allows for the

demon the chance to manifest it's will, while the summoner manifests thier will at
the same time, through the actions of the demons. This enables for the development of a kind
of pact which benefits both the demon and the summoner. The Summoner becomes the director
of the spiritual energies, and shows the way to the target. The demon will obey for it is a
chance for the demon to manifest its purpose in the physical world.

The most basic way to achieve communication with demonic entites, is to create a psychic
connection, by becomming the essence of the very force that is called upon. For instance,
in the situation of the destruction of an enemy, a demon of destruction could be contacted,
by the summoner becomming the essence of chaos and destruction. The demon answers the call
and produces results.

Instead of ritualistic purification, as done by ritual magick, the summoner becomes the
essence of thier desire through focus and will, esentially eminating this energy like a
beacon of energy and purpose. This forms an essential link with the demon, without casting
a circle or using ritual instruments.

The proper demon, or legion of demons are attracted to this energy; it sees its purpose,
acknowledges this, and manifests its will in the physical realm according to its nature.
While it focuses on the target as determined by the summoner, the demon ignoring the
summoner as an already pure essence, or source; it has no need to hurt the summoner as
the summoner is recognised as a (metaphysical) reflection of the very essences and
purpose of the demon.

This is how the summoner survives without being consumed by either demons or desire.

How does a summoner use these energies, without becomming prey to thier own desires?
By using a basic method of detachment, or dis-association. This state of mind allows for
the summoner to act and react through a vantage point of observation and seperation.
Within this state of mind, the summoner becomes an observer of thier self and being,
detaching from desires and experiening reality through inaction, without interference
from the ego, or influence from a demon who is trying to influence personal will.

Being able to enter and maintain this perspective is very usefull in summoning. While
in this state it is much easier to not be influenced by desire. Also, this state serves
as an immediate escape if the need is there. It will allow you to enter other states of
summoning with ease, due to its nature of detachment that allows for a deeper perception
of spiritual realities. It is the basis of (psychic) direct summoning.

The easiest state of communication to enter is transvocation. This state of mind allows for
the summoner to take on the intelligence and perspective of the demon, while still
maintaing free will and conscious action. Transvocation will allow the demon to communicate
subconsciously through visions, realisations, signs, dreams, words and even experiences
that relate to the nature of the office of the demon the summoner is working with.
Perception of reality is literally shared with this demonic intelligence.

For example, upon calling a demon of lust through a transvocation method, the summoner would
go through a calling upon purpose and meaning of lust (according to the situation) to incite
this energy from within. Then the focus is shifted to association with this desire and the
demon that the summoner wishes to contatct. Then, there is a period of identification of
the demon, communication and questioning that brings answers as percieved through psychic
(telepathic) interaction, visions and also, dreams that relate to the summoner's situation
or request. Desires are then manifested, quickly, depending on the level of psychic
communication and understaning between summoner and demon, and the level of experience of
the summoner.

Signs and symbols of the presence of this demon within daily interactions may be experienced.
Some of these things could be dismissed as coincidence or even subconscious manifestation,
but the experienced summoner sees that this is how entities communicate. There could
be nightmares, disturbing thoughts or feelings of fear or doubt; this is where
dis-association comes in handy. Also, you might experience poltergeist activity or
continually feel a presence while you go through a transvocation. This is to be expected
and as you spend more time summoning you will find similar systems of signs and symptoms
repeatedly. These signs are unique and individual to all summoners, so learning how to
read signs is an important part of being aware during your transvocation.

Also, periods of enlightenment can be achieved through this method, but the deeper one goes
into gnosis and communication the more the line between transvocation and evocation, or
invocation are crossed.

Evocation is the next stage; this is where the summoner crosses the boundaries of telepathic
interaction and actually manifests the being in the astral or even to the physcial. This
can be achieved, once again through dis-association of self, will and even environment,
effectively dissloving the boundaries between the physical and the spiritual. Invocation is
similar, in that the idea of the self is totally disolved and is filled with the essence of
the being or spirit. This allows for complete and total posession, and loss of personal
being and awareness. The summoners will is replaced with that of the demon's.

After all these states of being, the one thing that remains untouched is the self. This is
called, the Ipseic from the latin meaning, "self". This is the absolute essence of your
being in it's divine (natural?) state. It does not use states of association or
dis-association. The Ipseic is the actual self, the seat of the soul. This state serves as
a mental escape for the summoner when it is needed. In fact, a demon or any other entity
can not harm the summoner while they are in this state of being. This is because there is
nothing to bend the will of the summoner. Existence is the totality of this state, and
existence has no other purpose besides being.

At this point there is no need for banishing. In fact, when working with a direct method
such as this a demon would find a banishing to be insulting and useless. You must find
methods you can use to cut the ties, such as total ending of communication between you
and the entity, seperation, detachment from all desires.

When all these states are experienced, a new world opens up for the summoner. This is
a world where the (inner) will of the summoner stretches forth and becomes an extension
and a reflection of the self. This spirit "self" called a familiar and this familiar can act
within the world according to your will, because it is a being made of your will.
It is, esentially this spiritual extension of the self, that produces a total
manifestation of desires which reflect upon reality. When this state of awarness is
achieved, the summoner is aligned with the flow of (magick) reality. The effects produced
can be amazing.

Quite long winded but you get the drift... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/face08.gif)
