I've noticed that when you're going about your day to day life you can pull your attention or concentration so you visualise things in your head or actually out in the world.
I've found that when trying to ap as well my eyes roll back, sometimes or feel like my attention is sunk in my head, but I can also focus on the eyelids and seeing ahea into the blackness - the problem being they start to open.

The part where you watch behind your eyelids, is that the kind of thing you want to have when trying to ap, or do you want your eyes more back in your head, so to speak?

The majority of practitioners roll their eyes up towards the 3rd eye, which directs the attention towards that center of consciousness. This happens naturally when you are asleep, or any other time you lose waking consciousness, and so it is a natural mechanism that can be taken advantage of. It is best when you can relax your eyes into that position, as odd as it sounds, and visualize in the 'darkness' there, rather than looking straight ahead into the eyelids. This will, for one thing, allow you to relax your eyelids a little, which will allow you to relax your face, which is one of the more difficult areas to relax on the body during projection or OOB. For another thing, you are then visualizing/seeing images on screen of your third eye, more appropriate than the back of the eye lids.

The world is complicated - that which makes it up is elegantly simplistic, but infinitely versatile.
