Yeah, it's difficult to say what exactly the Ancient Ones want. Personally I tend to side with the Elder Gods, but you know, the Necronomicon was written by someone, and that someone was going to be biased towards one side or the other. Just like the Christians say Satan is the ultimate evil, while those who worship satan suggest he's a liberator and enlightener. Could be the same kind of deal.
I have very little knowledge of the ancient ones, however, in some traditions of evocation/invocation, the entity is called down into a 'seer' who is the only one who actually witnesses and converses with the entity. Your answer could be there. Typically, someone else is doing the summoning. But, if no one else was directly involved in the ritual, there you go.
Also, hard to say whether it's a blind or not, but the Nec. suggests in many places that working with the ancient ones is a good way to have the Elder Gods turn their backs on you - after all, if you don't honor your end of the covenant, why should they honor theirs?
