Every serious student of the occult is familiar with this all-powerful text. Within it lie the secrets of eternity, the forbidden knowledge of the dark unknown.

Every journey into the shadows requires careful, measured steps—a proficient execution of the necessary rituals and spells, and an understanding and appreciation of the history of the world beyond.

The Gates of the Necronomicon is an invaluable companion to the Mad Arab’s original work. In it are essential keys to the nuance and complexities of the ancient grimoire, enabling all who dare to pass through the magical gates that separate the body, mind, and spirit; the past and future; the living and dead.

The journey begins . . .

Simon is a student of magic, occultism, and religion since the mid-1960s and the editor of the Necronomicon, Simon was a frequent lecturer for the famed Warlock Shop in Brooklyn and the Magickal Childe Bookstore in Manhattan for more than ten years before his sudden disappearance in 1984, speaking on topics as diverse as religion and politics, occultism and fascism, ceremonial magic, demonolatry, the Tarot, the Qabala, and Asian occult systems. He also conducted private classes for the New York City OTO during this period, with a focus on Enochian magic, "Owandering bishops," and Afro-Caribbean occult beliefs. An ordained priest of an Eastern Orthodox church, Simon has appeared on television and radio discussing such topics as exorcism, satanism, and Nazism. The media events he organized in the 1970s and 1980s -- with rock bands, ritual performances, and celebrity appearances -- helped to promote the "occult renaissance" in New York City. After decades of study in European, Asian, and Latin American cult centers, this book marks his first public appearance in more than twenty years.

Hi, Fiona! Thanks for the reply. You are probably right, I am getting cought up in the fine print (so to speak). But there is, of course, a very serious warning on page 16 of the Necronomicon that seems like very good advice, especially in light of the Mad Arab's final demise. I do not want to make the same mistakes that caused him to lose grace with the Gods. I want to approach Them ( the Gods) in the manner that They have prescribed for Their priest, even if it means going to a little extra trouble or expence just to make sure everything is right. However, you are absolutely correct, proper intentions mean a lot, the Gods can easily descern the intentions of the heart!!!

I, too, have a copy of the Necronomicon Spellbook, but I will not use the ritual described within it. In fact, I refuse to call upon or work with the Fifty Names until I have ascended Lord Marduk's step on the Ladder of Lights (see page 124, paraghraph 3, of the Necronomicon). I take warnings very seriously (I work with chemicals everyday at my place of employment and I always read and strictly adhere to all direction and warning labels), and the ritual mistake that you describe simply reinforces this for me. However, I am very glad to know that you were unhurt in any way, physically, psychologicaly or emotionally (except for maybe disapointment).

But your general point is heard and taken. I will try not to be so anal on the small things -- size and shape of the bread offering, or the form of the incense I use -- unless I can find more detailed and explicite ritual instructions.

Again, Fiona, I would like to thank you for your reply and comments. They are helpful and appreciated!
