I'm no expert on the Nec, but as I understand it, the deity-ish spirit Barashakushu existed before there were jews, so when they came along they adopted him into their religion and named him Gabriel. I don't know why that name, but Michael for example was called Mikal and he was a war God of the babylonians. I don't know what his name was (don't remember it right now) but one of his names was Mikal. Basically I think that they are similar, but different at the same time. Mikal I would think is massively powerful since he was a deity. Michael is a powerful (but not overwhelming massive) archangel that any person can (and do) call on. I would think the same thing goes for Gabriel and Barashakushu. Some people here on the forum mention that the fifty name spirits seem to be massively powerful but are "contained."
Interesting, and thank you for your input Altpath. So if one wants to summon Barashakushu/Gabriel ( as i do plan to) which sigil should he go by? Does it matter? And if he chose either one should he still be succesful regardless of which sigil he chose?
You said that that some people regard the fifty name spirits as "contained." I am curious, how and why are they contained?
