I can't explain most of what you experienced, aside from vague claims on how easy it is to forget (or forge) memories in our big old squishy heads. Except one thing I might note...

I keep a close eye out for "changes in the Matrix" so to speak. Maybe it's just my insecurity though, but every discrepancy in reality is quite easily attributable to my own absent mindedness. Unfortunately I can't tell the difference between memory and imagination, so a lot of things that I remember don't seem to be true at all. The problem is how these discrepancies keep "fixing" themselves, as soon as they're put to the test there's nothing there at all. When I find something that doesn't make sense, and doesn't magically stop happening when I pay attention, I'll be sure to let you know.
