I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I wanted to open it up to other interpretations.

Two nights ago I was sleeping at my girlfriend's place. I had a pretty restless sleep (felt like I was awake all night).
Just before I drifted off after waking up for the tenth time I distinctly heard someone shout the word "out". Now what was strange about this was that I didn't hear it with my ears, I heard it in my head as If I was thinking to myself, but it was a different voice to my own.

The voice was a man's voice of about middle to late twenties maybe earlier thirties and was very clear and powerful sounding (demanding me to get out?) however, I didn't sense any sort of anger from the voice, it sounded powerful and demanding as I just mentioned, but I didn't fear it. Of course I got a bit of a shock hearing someone else's voice in my head.

So at first I thought my studies are getting to me and I'm going insane but I then though about my training in CM.
The last few days I have done the LBRP every day. Before this week I found it hard to find the time to do a ritual at least once a week. So I thought that the increase in magical practice has increased my awareness to the spiritual environment and I have telepathically picked up on some spirit's vibe who has apparently been telling me to get out from some place (girlfriend's house?) and I have only started to tune into it.

It didn't happen last night at my place so I'm guessing the spirit is based at her place or just visited me.
I don't know of anyone passing away at my girlfriend's house (her family has lived there for about 12 years) and nothing strange has ever happened to her place which could suggest a haunting, so I'm baffled as to why I heard this voice.

Of course I could just be going insane (IMG:style_emoticons/default/insane.gif)

I decided to post this to share my story and to get some opinions. So what do you guys think?

On dgd's original post

Personality is a funny thing. When we are awake it is usually grounded and we have a strong self awareness. This awareness only remains intact as long as the mind maintains consciousness. When we are knocked out, under the influence of drugs (especially like LSD or mescaline), or on the verge of sleep our self awareness sort of "unzips" and the doors of our normal perception are wide open.

In terms of sleep what this means is that as we begin to fall asleep we are really beginning the stages of the sleep cycle and we experience dream/sleep like symptoms along the way. Normally what this is that at a certain time of night (most people are wired to get sleepy around 10 pm) we get tired, yawn and begin to relax. We then go to bed, close our eyes, heart and breathing rates slow down and we gradually fall asleep. We essentially pass out, loose consciousness, from the melatonin that is pumped into our system. Of course in this state of mind we have full blown dreams, if we didn't we'd be classified as in a kind of coma instead.

This is the important part to understand; at the very peek of tiredness, just prior to actual sleep, the brain begins to fire neurons and produce dream like affects. These are called pre-dreams episodes and they are called this because they have the same characteristics as dreams but just without any noticable narrative or story line. When the brain begins to have these pre-dream episodes the person may still have a strong measure of awareness - especially in those who are restless, sleep deprived, on certain drugs or are insomiacs. So a person may experience really anything within their memory - feelings of arousal, a random smell or touch, even taste or a piece of a random memory of an event.

Sometimes these episodes are powerful enough to wake a person back up. Since people rely mostly on vission and hearing these tend to dominate not only what we experience while dreaming but before hand as well. If I remember correctly I think the brain actually stimulates the temporal lobes (what controls our hearing) first and then the occipital (vission) and then loops back through the rest of the brain eventually firing randomly in later stages of sleep.

So what I think you experienced was just a pre-dream episode - a random piece of information stored in your brain that surfaced just before you went to sleep. I think it would be pointless to try and pin point the source of the memory. It could have come from something you saw on TV, something you heard on the radio in a song, something you expereinced. You might have even been the one who said "OUT!" at some point in your past. Your restlessness only increased the likeliness of having such an experience. While I know the event was probably very realistic and I don't question the possibility of something paranormal this is the most logical explaination. Especially on such an isolated event. If you can explain the event rationally don't just jump on the paranormal band wagon without more information or experiencing more than just an isolated situation.

What I would do is I would try to recreate the same situation, with your girl, and see if you don't get another response. Maybe even try to contact any spirit that might be there through the use of a medium like a ouija board or scry. I would go with trying to recreate this senario you had in the first place before you try to contact anything otherworldly because doing that might actually just invite something in rather than link you to any spirit that might have said "out" to you. Just remember the most grounded answers are usually right.
