I was wondering if anyone has ever tried working with rune projection, as in projecting forward the power and visualization of a rune for whatever purpose. For instance, you could use a protection rune projected around you to form a shield, or maybe use the Thorn rune (Thurisaz) as a weapon. Maybe projecting the ice rune for physical cold, or to slow something or someone down. I'm just curious to see if anyone's had any experience with this, because it sounds like it could have some interesting possibilities. Thanks:)

Hi Thorn

I don't believe that runes can be used quite as you are suggesting. You don't project a rune's power like you would a ray gun. You read about things like that in works of fiction. But there is a difference between fiction and reality. The runes are patterns of energy that you can access through specific means. The closest I can think of is doing runic meditations and galdar in which your holding the rune in your mind while chanting causes a radiation of that energy. But it isn't something that you can do on the fly while pursuing a fleeing enemy or whomever. There are also runic charms and bindrunes that once set up require no more preparation, but do not allow for fine control. I'm not expert on runes however, more an intermediate. Perhaps someone else might be able to comment more clearly.

Thanks for the reply. I'm having a little trouble explaining exactly what I mean, exactly. Think about when you're writing a rune on something, say a protection rune or a healing symbol, or whatever, and then put energy into it to empower it and whatnot. The fact is, you don't actually need the ink part of the rune, it's just giving you something to focus the power on. What I'm suggesting is more like that, you're visualizing the rune on something, or a person or whatever, and projecting power into it. Using the symbol as a sort of catalyst. Anyway, thank you for your thoughts and any others are appreciated. Cheers.

i know when i first joined this site, one of the first messages i tripped across was charged with a runic symbol. It was not supposed to be aimed at me; it was meant for someone else i think, as a warning or as an experiment...but in any case, my concern is just that; you must be sure that it hits its target. When you write something down with ink, i think it gives a focal point for concentrating your energies and enables you to (forgive the pun) really spell out what you want and how you want it. I believe writing down a rune IS charging it. Its a confirmation of one's intention. But if you do not have that, it would be more like throwing darts blindfolded. Sometimes you hit the target, and sometimes you miss. And sometimes you hit something else. Or someone else. I would be careful using runes as weapons in that case; just in case you miss.

Anyway...that is the only reason i think it can work. I also think that since its not tangible...(think placebo for healing purposes; the act of taking empty pills of medicine is healing in itself) the effects of a healing wouldn't be as rewarding as a healing where that final physical touch gave the patient some extra faith and comfort. Touch is important!

Anyway, this has potential. potential to be good and useful, and potential to be sloppy or unnecessary.
