I apologise before hand for skipping some of the reply's. Was personaly more intrested in giving my own two cents of how to deal with various parasites rather then read more about them. (it is rather early in the morning and id rather not have such things on my mind (IMG:

There are two types from what ive noticed. (two types of attacks) One is exterior, where there is an entity(or even two or 20) eating a person from the outside, for they have no need to go within to take what they want. Another is either one with conciousness somehow gaining access to a person's inner self or a lot of smaller ones who aint worth talking to that somehow infiltrated the energetic body.
They would most likely attach themselves to you for various reasons. Since while working your magick and doing various changes to reality(no matter how small) and using your energy in ways which most do not, you are becoming more attention grabing to spirits, entities and even other people who practice magick. If you do not know how to properly defend yourselves or make your existence less noticable then you will probably have either spirits poking at you, other people noticing you, or the ever popular parasites biting down on you.
Regarding spirits of all kinds in particular. Since they see us as energy and do not care for walls or phisical objects(or even phisical bodys) they will most deffinately notice someone doing something "un-natural" with their energy, or those who have a larger activity within their core.
To prevent them from noticing you or accessing you, you can do manny a thing. Starting off with a good defense. A shield of various functions is in order. Wether it be a symbol, draining you, to prevent access and influance.. or a shield of your own energy either breaking down what ever comes to you without permition or repeling it away from you(those are just examples but any such idea that prevents access and influance is in order). Either charging them daily or attaching them to your core so they do not "run out" and simply checking them once in a while is a good tactic.
I am sure manny of you, if not all, have hightend spiritual senses. To detect whatever is around you and how that "thing" is interacting with the world, if you are noticed by people or entities, if any action at all had been taken against you, what new options came to life in your personal reality or in the more global one. Taking all those into consideration. You can either erase new possibilities from your personal reality before they take phisical form and effect or inforce rules into your personal reality for all who come within your range. There are manny ways, though the most simple one would be "feeling" the energy around you and then making yourself part of it. Like an illusion of sorts. Making yourself part of your enviorement. Like an extension of the wall of your room. Making you not very noticable if you feel threatend or in a hostile enviorement. Another would be minimizing your overall energy output. Thus also attracting less attention.
To fight off whatever is allready inside you is a use of other strengths. You can either push them, their energetic forms, with your will alone(if they do not posses a will of their own that is) or tell their energy to break down or even change their function(since everything is basicaly energy, it matters not which will tells it what to do). You can use your own energy with the function of erasing intent and will to make their energetic bodys into energy without meaning and then flush it out. If you work with various elemental energies you can use them to both defend against such things or destroy them. Manny options are possible but still its best to choose those that fit the situation. Its allways wise to investigate before taking action(unless you are in a situation where waiting is not an option).
If you fell victim to an attack or have been drained by a parasite there is a very important action to be taken after cleansing yourself. If injured energeticaly, you also suffer both pain and lower energy output\performance. Nothing should be taken lightly. Even the smallest crack in your energetic form will manifest itself in manny ways phisicaly a few months\weeks later(depending what the injury was, days even if not at that very momment). You should allways be aware of your energetic systems within. Making sure things are flowing well without intteruption. If you suffered an attack you should check to see that all the "veins" that energy flows through are intact. If not then you should repair them, allowing normal flow yet again. Same goes for holes in the aura and the energetic layers that form the energetic form of our being. If any are there, they should be mended as fast as possible to prevent phisical pain\illness that will come later as a result of magickal means, rather then purely phisical conditions.
Regarding the consumption of energetic beings, I would like to write down my personal opinion on the matter and i hope you do not take it to heart since my view on this is rather negetive in nature.
When consuming other beings you do not only consume the energy they are made of which might be worse in qaulity thus lowering your results and overall control of various techniques, but also their "will" if there is one to begin with which might give you a sense of psychological unbalance. So I am highly against it.
Our personal energy, that our soul makes for us with much care and love is the best energy for us personaly. Anything that comes from either other beings or people like us is usualy for a purpose. To either strengthen us or for telepathical communication. Manny a thing, but not to replace what we have or to make it "better".
