I've seen for a while, that the Archangels attributed to the Sephiroth are not necessarily the same Archangels attributed to the Planet which are attributed to the Sephiroth.

At first this did not bother me, but not I'm starting to wonder why. Michael is the Archangel of the Sun, but the Archangel of Hod, where as Raphael is the Archangel of Mercury, but the Archangel of Tiphereth. This doesn't make sense to me. I know that the Sephiroth and the Planets aren't perfect correspondences, the Sephiroth tend to be grander in their scopes, but I don't see why there would be enough difference to switch around Archangels like that. To me it would make more sense with Michael as Archangel of the Sun and Tiphereth, Raphael of Hod and Mercury.

Is there a reason for this? The only one I had suggested to me, is that it is a Blind, but I hate suspecting blinds every time something doesn't make sense.

So I ask, dear readers of the forum, is there a reason for a switch like this? And, can anyone recommend an early Qabalistic work which includes the assignment of the Angels to the Sephiroth?

I can't vouch for it just yet, but there is a website: www.psyche.com, where it is discussed that the golden dawn qabalah, i.e., the 'hermetic' qabalah, is inaccurate because of the lack of hebrew language education within the order - that is, it's members spoke only a smattering of hebrew based solely on their mystical studies. So Carlo Suares said at any rate.

However, that isn't the first instance I've seen and encountered personally where there were glaringly obvious errors in the qabalah of tradition western esotericism. The assignment of the paths in most traditional western systems (and, the Golden Dawn was basically the foundation of modern day 'traditions' of ceremonial magick) is also questionable, although i haven't explored the variations deeply enough yet to recommend a better layout.

One can argue that the Golden Dawn system works (for some folks) but in comparing GD qabalah with classical kabbalah from a jewish standpoint (as a culture, not necessarily specifically as a religion), classical kabbalah has an internal consistency that makes the GD qabalah look really messy.

peace
