So, I have flying dreams probably every other dream that I'm aware of, and I've been recording all my dreams for a while. There's this reoccurring theme in my flying dreams specifically that I thought I would share here, and see if anyone had any ideas.

In my dreams, the act of flying is not spontaneous at all - it takes focus, awareness of the ground and my relationship to it, and of course the willingness to jump and keep going up instead of falling down. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

However, in every single dream, I always have a hard time avoiding power lines. Regardless of the apparent setting - usually my grandmother's old house, another reoccurring theme - I almost always have to struggle to avoid powerlines while flying.

Anyone have some similar dream experience? Any ideas on what it might symbolize? I have thoughts, but I want to reserve them until I get some outside perspective.

peace

Flying is commonly related to themes of freedom, over comming obsticles and adventure. It can also mean the opposite - lack of control, detacment from reality, irrational thinking or acting (emotions vs reason). It can also relate to being uncentered, imbalanced or not grounded.

You say that you have to focus on the act of flying and I take you are at least partially aware of these dreams. This suggests control, as apose to the lack of it. But it does not necessarily rule out irrationality. The powerlines themselves represent an obsticle. Something holding you back, something that is trying to redirect your attention. You say that the setting is usually at your grandma's old house. This implies a place in the past. Now, of course, I have no idea what your up bringing was like or what you ever experienced at your grandma's old house. So consider your memories of that place and try to focus on something to significant, pleasant or not. Try to focus on that and see if anything has any relavence to your life now.

In short it sounds like you are striving for freedom or to overcome an obsticle in your life. While that obsticle might literally relate to something(s) from your grandma's house, it could also be metaphorical. Maybe your grandma's house symbolizes a feminine structure or paradigm within yourself that is somehow holding you back or otherwise trying to get your conscious awareness of.
