I've seen for a while, that the Archangels attributed to the Sephiroth are not necessarily the same Archangels attributed to the Planet which are attributed to the Sephiroth.

At first this did not bother me, but not I'm starting to wonder why. Michael is the Archangel of the Sun, but the Archangel of Hod, where as Raphael is the Archangel of Mercury, but the Archangel of Tiphereth. This doesn't make sense to me. I know that the Sephiroth and the Planets aren't perfect correspondences, the Sephiroth tend to be grander in their scopes, but I don't see why there would be enough difference to switch around Archangels like that. To me it would make more sense with Michael as Archangel of the Sun and Tiphereth, Raphael of Hod and Mercury.

Is there a reason for this? The only one I had suggested to me, is that it is a Blind, but I hate suspecting blinds every time something doesn't make sense.

So I ask, dear readers of the forum, is there a reason for a switch like this? And, can anyone recommend an early Qabalistic work which includes the assignment of the Angels to the Sephiroth?

As we grow all things are external.
As we learn all things are internal.
As we understand all things are not.

On pg. 95 of Nick Farrell's "Making Talismans: Living Entities of Power" (i love this book, even though it needs to be expanded upon, and some misspellings need to be corrected in it) states:

You will notice that most of the Archangelic Names of the Planets, are also Archangels of Sephiroth. The Archangels of the Sephiroth are universal-that is, their powers are expressed throughout all levels of creation throughout every galaxy in the universe. The Archangels of the Planets only have power w/in our solar system; however, because the solar system is part of the universe, Planetary Archangels are a subset of Sephirothic Archangels.

ex. Michael as Archangel of the Sun, is only revealing a small part of his personality. It is as if he has had to leave part of himself behind in Briah in order to lower himself down to the Yetzaratic level to be the Sun Archangel.

Note: the Archangel, Intelligence and Spirit sigils derived from the Magic Squares are Planetary.
