My friend recently told me of a strange experience she'd had. Now, as a person she's a devout Baptist so she put this down to demonic activity, but I'm not exactly that's what I would call it anyway. She told me that one night she was sitting on her bed, texting somebody, when all of a sudden she looked up and saw these people standing in the corner of her room. They came and told her that they were "mothmen", and she said one of them took her hands and commented on how soft they were. Then they just sort of faded away.

Any ideas as to what they could be? I think I've heard of mothmen before, but I'm not so sure. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Erm... not so much. Banshees portend a death in the family and that's pretty much it, but the Mothmen often like to torment their victims. They have been known to fly alongside cars to try to run them off the road, they'll make death-threat calls (and if you trace the call, the call originates from the phone you're holding), they'll impersonate dead loved ones, etc. Or they just appear before a viewer saying nothing and scare the hell out of them. It's like they feed off of fear or something.

The Mothmen, as its name suggests, are tall human-like creatures with moth wings and faces, if they have a face. They have fiery-red eyes but are sometimes headless with eyes inset in its chest. They're usually quite tall as well, typically standing 6-8 feet. Rare cancer, car accidents, and suicide are common threads among those that have seen them on the individual scale, but death can come in any form. Lare-scale sightings (a dozen or so sightings around the same time) end in disaster. The most famous and highly publicized was the Silver Bridge collapse in Point Pleasant, West Virginia (a city here in America) that took the lives of 48 people in one fell swoop. For some reason, the Mothmen like Point Pleasant, because every 2-5 years there are 3 or 4 sightings all at once which usually end in their deaths or someone nearby. In the last 40 years, there is a total of 86 deaths linked to the Mothmen sightings in Point Pleasant alone.

By no means, however, is Point Pleasant the only place this happens. Like I said, they're just the most publicized. The sightings happened in Utah just before a commercial plane crash killing 90-something people, sightings in Chile portended a tsuami that hit the coast and killed hundreds, sightings have taken place in Australia, Singapore, China, Africa-- all over the world and have been associated with either the death of individuals or disaster that takes out scores or even hundreds at once.

I'm a bit concerned about your friend's hands. When Mothmen speak, they often allude to how a person will die. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hmm.gif) I don't think she'll lose them as Mothmen don't waste their time merely predicting injury. Death and disaster are characterized by their appearence. It wouldn't surprise me if her hands were somehow involved in process of someone else's death, or if she causes her own death by her hands either by accidental or intentional suicide, or her hands getting caught in something (like, for example, getting caught in a net and being pulled underwater) causing her death.

There is one thing that gives me pause though about this particular sighting. You said that these people came out from the corner of her room and "claimed" that they were Mothmen. That isn't something Mothmen usually do. I haven't heard of them anouncing who they are and I've never heard of someone seeing a group of them. They're usually far more malevolent and often give themselves individual names. Ask her to describe the appearance of the individuals to you. They're always always tall, moth-like in appearence, have wings, red eyes, and sometimes have no head. If they don't meet the description, then it was merely an apparition making false claims about themselves trying to scare her and you have nothing to worry about. The Mothmen are not to be trifled with.

Ya know, I'd love to see a Bandar Watcher and a Mothman go at it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sport_boxing.gif) Now THAT would be an interesting fight.

SOMEONE has been watching too much Mothman Prophecy

QUOTE(Slayden @ Aug 9 2007, 05:53 PM) *

I heard that you can even record their voices when you speak to them. If you send the tapes in for analysis, you'll get conformation that what was spoken was not made by human vocal cords.

This is just a myth, concocted from the movie.

Another myth from the movie. Mothmen are guardians and usually HELP people cross to the otherside. The impersonation of loved ones was just in the movie to make it more interesting.

Another myth from the movie. Their eyes are generally described in REAL accounts as "bright white lights" like flood lights.

Often mothmen simply use touch as a way of proving to the person it is not just a fantasy. They not always predict death, sometimes they come baring warnings. Did your friend develop a rash on her hands?

They're usually far more malevolent and often give themselves individual names... They're always always tall, moth-like in appearence, have wings, red eyes, and sometimes have no head. If they don't meet the description, then it was merely an apparition making false claims about themselves trying to scare her and you have nothing to worry about. The Mothmen are not to be trifled with.

They do not always give themselves names. The only reason the Indrid Cold had a name was so he could be credited in the movie as there was a different actor voicing and a different actor appearing. Mothmen always have wings... hence the "moth" however they are not always tall (as the movie claims) and as I have stated before, most people describe the mothmans eyes as bright white lights, such as flood lights. If they don't have heads it is often a square of light that is described flowing from the body.

---

The earliest sighting of the mothman were in India. He is often known by lore as deceptive angels, usually to help one cross over to the other side. They are gentle and calm as to not cause fear however they are usually a manifestation that something bad is about to happen (most of the time death, however sometimes it's just illness or a giant cyclone or something arbitrary like that.)

"If there was a car crash ten blocks away, that window washer up there could probably see it. Now, that doesn't mean he's God, or even smarter than we are. But from where he's sitting, he can see a little further down the road. "
