I agree most people don't understand what they believe but I did not ask most people. I asked people that are in a place (magick forum) were I hope almost everyone is trying to understand there deep mind. So they should have experiences and feelings as to what is truly what they believe and not what they have been raised and told to believe. If not I do not think many people would be here since magick is said to be fake, false, unreal.
True beliefs are experiential and not quantifiable, or not worth quantifying - I could tell you I believe in natural phenomenon, but then I would have to define my interpretation of those things, and even without those definitions you have a general idea of what I mean.
In the case of religious or spiritual beliefs, it's not some rote description of a higher power, its a collection of abstract experiences, perceptions, interpersonal observations, and some elements that defy labels.
I'm not suggesting that my beliefs are super special, but that no one here, or anywhere for that matter, can really and truly state their TRUE beliefs, not from a lack of awareness but a lack of language. The fact that you asked means that you are still confusing your false beliefs with your true beliefs.
True beliefs are indicated by actions, not words. That doesn't mean they can't be 'proven' by words - although that is also true - but that words don't describe them, actions do; action is the appropriate language to use to describe beliefs. That is, the beliefs that you are asking for here.
Rituals, labelling conventions, collections of esoteric lore, traditions, etc., none of these are true beliefs, they are learned behaviors. Belief in a God is a learned behavior, inherited and not original to one's true experience. I'm not suggesting no one believes in a higer power, just that without experience you can't truly believe in anything, you can only think that you do - most people have not experienced a higher power.
However, false beliefs are more isidious than just that - what we think we believe is more than just what we are raised and told to believe, it is what you have told yourself you want to believe based on judgements and assumptions, and these based on superficial experiences and the hypothesizing of experience. You can't express your true beliefs in words.
I apologize that my initial response was somewhat short, it was late and I was reconsidering the nature of beliefs after having covered this a long time ago, I'm not trying to bash you for asking about beliefs, just trying to offer a wider perspective on just what it is that you're actually asking, and what it suggests about your own interpretation of 'belief'.
