Dude.. this is a funny world it truly is.
My best friend has fibro, my new girlfriend and a girl i hope to be my girlfriend also have it.
Massage alone as so far proved inadequate but i've only had a couple of try's.

I've recently decided to get off my arse an learn to heal this pesky illness (before reading this, a few days ago lol), your post is very informative, thank you.
I don't have much in the way of ideal working conditions but i've got a lot of nice stones, not sure how to tackle all this, i'm relatively inexperienced..
I was kinda hoping one session would do it.. a couple since i'm relatively unpracticed.. I see i might have to keep it up for a while now.

Is it worth going to get reiki attuned? i made a contact at a festival in august so i could give it a go.
What kind of talisman/stone enchantment you got going? I've attempted a healing stone before but it was ages ago an not really appropriate for this.
Do you find pain killers and anti-depressants in the patient effect your work at all?

It's an odd but disturbing story actually.. My step father was coming down with the flu but really couldn't afford to get time off work so i enchanted this stone to kind of 'copy everyone else's immune system' among other things.
It worked, he was fine the next day but absolutely everyone in my place of work (McDonnalds) came down with serious flu the same day. Lots of snotty burgers!
I panicked and buried the thing under a compost heap. I was a bit mad at the time.

I'm sure that kind of stuff counts for 'real stuff happening', it certainly seems more important than freezing shit with my mind atm, i've seen enough 'real stuff'.. at the end of the day it's the useful subtler things that need focus, their really arn't many times in a mans life when fireballs are gona be of any real use so it's not that surprising people arn't developing these abilitys.
I've spent most of my youth learning to be terrifying only to realize it's not much use, healing is definitely the way forward!

I believe Reiki as an energy is something we all have access too. The Attunement is kind of like having someone else help you get 'attuned', hence the use of the word, and can be helpful, but in principal it is the heavenly breath, the thing which encourages everything to become completed. You can tune into it without an attunement, but I guess you could say you'd be flying blind getting there. Having taken my attunements, I can say that reiki is an energy I experienced before I took them.

I use a brass talisman inscribed with a healing prayer on one side, and the seals and symbols of healing spirits and angels on the other arranged along a hexagram, for it's Water/Fire joined symbolism more so than the frequently employed planetary symbolism. I keep my crystals in a little wooden chest with similar icons burned into the inner and outer faces.

So far I haven't seen that medication makes a difference. Most of my clients come to me to ultimately get off the meds, but this decision needs to be made with the help of a doctor. Always have a healing subject follow up with a doctor if there are changes in their condition - it both verified improvement and ensures that it is safe for them to reduce and eventually give up the medication.

Beyond that, in my opinion you have to be a certain kind of person to be an effective healer. Its something everyone can do to an extent, but I found that when I was younger and went on a healing crusade with everyone I knew that had a problem, usually the outcome was not impressive. Now I let them come to me, I ask if they want me to try, and I keep my ego out of it - when clients ask how it works, I tell them that I don't know and don't need to know. I just do what I am supposed to do. I have some idea of the mechanics of how it works, but getting technical with the client makes them think I'm doing something precise and calculated when that isn't the case. I think that the more you take yourself out of the way of it, the easier and more powerful the healing becomes. So while I work I try not to let my analytic mind get too engaged, usually I repeat a mantra internally, or talk to the client about their life and other unrelated issues.

Sometimes the work can be done in a timely manner, sometimes its done before I expected, and sometimes it takes longer than the time we scheduled for it. I've found that it's important to try not to interrupt the flow of the work, so in these cases I block off extra time just in case.

--------------------
The world is complicated - that which makes it up is elegantly simplistic, but infinitely versatile.
