is traditionally linked, among many other things, with death, melancholy and the inauspicious, although I sincerely hope that we're all sufficiently adult (and sufficiently competent occultists) to recognise that drawing a person's attention to this is hardly the same as predicting their imminent demise.
My own immediate set of responses for you to toy with:
Perhaps it signifies the Tarotic Death (although the number of that card isn't 4) with its emphasis on new beginnings, the cutting away of psychic 'dead wood' and so forth. How are you feeling about your occult studies at the moment - is anything from your past blocking you? Old ideas or preconcieved notions? What about your meditation technique - how comfortable are you with that? The fact that you 'go OOB' without meaning to or without being ready suggests that it isn't quite perfect for you, at least not yet. Would you be prepared to experiment with others? If not, why not?
Or perhaps it does indeed represent physical, bodily death. Don't be frightened by that; not just because I for one would rather take the word of a qualified General Practitioner over a garden-variety alarm clock any day. The point is, I think, that we are all mortal,
eventually, and sometimes the Powers that Be find it salutary to give us a gentle reminder of that fact. If the meditation you're practicing is strongly Buddhist, or part of any other transcendental religion, it might be an encouragement to keep on the path of mindfulness and conquer fear of bodily death.
Either way, I reccommend a highly elaborate, exhaustively researched and soul-binding 3-day clock banishing ritual before you meditate. Either that, or cover it up with a face flannel. (IMG:
