According to the scientists were going to have one of the worst hurricane, typhoon etc seasons ever recored in America. Katrina's damage has been massive, far more than the average storm. Of course it's unfortunate that so many have died.

I'm mainly wondering, who here thinks that this is really just a period of natural climate change, or if this is ominous sign that the world's eco-terrorism will lead to greater and greater natural disasters until earth is just a junk heap.

My personal belief is that the world is changing for the better, but by being narrow minded and not understanding the true nature of the sentiment of terrorism most of the world will abuse the resources of the world will become a very bad place to live. Of course, I know that we as a whole believe science will rescue us from everything and it will be interesting to see if science really does supply us with those things which we need. I'm interested to hear what everyone else thinks about this.

the end of the world, its just a matter of how you see it. Perhaps society will fall, nations will shatter. Its possible...

But none of these things i would call the end of the world. neither do a few events point to such a thing. It is highly unlikely that any kind of natural phenomena is strong enough to wipe out mankind, since we are stationed worldwide. Only a large meteor could have such a devestating worldwide effect. Hurricanes are common, they happen every year, just because this one hurricane strikes at the wrong place and time, does not mean it forebodes the end of the world.
If this was a disaster that means the end of the world, then it surely has some work to do. Not that much people died because of it, far less than in the terrorist attack of 9-11. True, the chaos is enormous there, and peoples lives are upset. Perhaps more will die in the chaos. But even then the death count will be relitavely low compared to the amount of humans walking this earth, or the amount dying of hungre in third world countries.

A few small burps from nature and people are alreadying seeing it as the end of the world. What is it, fear, disbelief... ? Less than 0,00001% of mankind died in two natural disasters, oooooh, what tragedy?

I will tell you this. at the end of the year 2012 i will come to these forums, and laugh at these predictions. There is no reason for the world to end, and nature has no means to cause that much devestation, nor does it has a reason. Predicting the end of the world just shows how much some people elevate the importance of mankind on this rock.

Nature should not be underestimated, even if we pollute this planet to the limit, we will just kill ourselves off. Then after ten thousands of years, a small second in the life of a planet, the earth will be restored as if we were never here.

A few days, only a few days of not burning fossil fuels, will almost cure the greenhouse effect. It is only because we keep burning that it still exists.

I predict that oil supplies will long be depleted by 2012, alternative green fuels will exist, and life will be greener and more healthy than ever.
