Entities, Are they real or something we made? Options

Enteties... now, the debate goes: Are they real? Are the seperate beings that exist with or without us or are they images, reflects, whatever of our minds that we create.

Just because, in my opinion, we've created the shells for these entities (gave form to them), it does'nt mean that they don't exist as beings seperate from ourselves.
I think it's like creating a servitor. You give it shape and purpose, and then allow it to serve you. If it has outlived it's purpose and you do not destroy it, it will evolve by itself, develop a mind of its own, and eventually become a very powerful entity, seperate from yourself, and, having outlived its purpose, it would quite possibly cause great havoc in both the astral and physical realms.

By all means, I have'nt really given this proper thought and think that this topic is highly debateble, so please feel free to contradict me.
