Can anyone give me a theory of how a binding works or point me in the right direction? I have found a few references but nothing in the way of a complete theory.

--------------------
Cosmic consciousness is devoid of diversity; yet the universe of diversity exists in notion....
We contemplate that reality in which everything exists, to which everything belongs,
from which everything has emerged, which is the cause of everything and which is everything....
The light of [this] self-knowledge alone illumines all experiences. It shines by its own light.
This inner light appears to be outside and to illumine external objects.

In sorcery binding means a control of some description. The reason for the need to bind is dependant on the strength of the binding. Or vice versa. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

For instance, if you are wanting to have control over someone or something for the sake of servitude whether it be permanent or transitory (temporary) then your binding technique is very fundamental. For more elaborate bindings, the rituals and evocations are increasingly more powerful, until you get to the binding of life, which renders both parties insensible on occasion. This is very powerful magic and should not be undertaken casually.

The ultimate binding is one that may be permanent, not only for this particular lifetime, but a powerful and cognisant sorcerer can and will bind for many or all the given lifetimes of any one individual. Very often a binding may be likened to temporary mesmerizing or bewitchment, but I have it on good authority that a true binding goes far deeper than that, and can break through the boundaries of consciousness into the subliminal. From there, if the binding had been correctly established and carried out, most communication between the sorcerer and the one who is bound (and vice versa) can become virtually telepathic.

I hope this was of some help, as I believe there is little written on the subject.

i wouldn't suggest binding unless it is for safety reasons of yourself or another person

other wise its heading towards control which is manipulation and thats not good for your karma

Bindings can take many forms and have many different gradations of strength. Like Alafair said a binding is basically a 'control'.. you bind someone (or an entity) towards something (against its will).. for example a love binding.. it really isn't a specific thing but more of a general concept.

Does it matter what to bind? String to a stick?¿

Bindings are a good way to protect urself in sorcery. Liken it to cutting ur opponents hands off prior to a fist fight. They r left defenseless. If u r to do magick upon another, u best bind them first or ur spell may be redirected back towards urself. BUt htis is the arena of tricky dealings. To use a binding for mundane things is meek, use ur intelect and charm to sway. I would suggest not using bindings all the time--u might find urself bound before u know it!
