Hi all;

Is the Bornless ritual a precursor to practice? Something that needs to be done prehpas before doing invokation work and so on? Have you done it and if so does it only need doign once or is it a ritual that needs doing on a regular basis.

Thanks

M

The Bornless One invocation is an interesting work. Originally a greek-egyptian rite for exorcism to remove a possessing demon from the victim. The Golden Dawn reworked it a bit and used it to invoke the higherself. Then of course Crowley took it and combined it with enochian and parts of the SIRP to create his ritual to invoke the Holy Guardian Angel, Liber Samekh.

Because of Crowly's Liber Samekh and him including it in his edited copy Goeita it has become a very popular invocation in modern time. It of course is not the only invocation of it's type around but it is effective.

No neither the bornless invocation nor Liber Samekh is intended to be a one time deal. Both are supposed to be used on a continuous basis so that the higherself might reveal itself to you. Although this sort of routine is not too helpful to the beginner as it takes time to purify and exalt the mind and body to the point where the true effects of such a rite can be seen. These rites are helpful in some workings such as evocations or invocations of god forms.

I am familiar with The invocation of the heart girt with a serpent / The bornless ritual in The Goetia.

Crowley is giving it as a preliminary invocation. When performed it radiates alot of power. Quite fun!

However I suppose I am more inclined to take a Chaos Magician approach to the 72 mighty kings and princes. In that I omit it usually.

Peace!

Why would you think that?

I meant, is it something that needs to be understood and practiced later on as a person advances through various grades? Someone mentioned it to me on here a while ago, said I should take time to understand and practice it.

Think it was P.D.

The bornless one can be used as a stand alone rite or as part of a operation. It can be useful or not depending on the person. It's purpose is to invoke the higherself or holy guardian angel, which is essential to magick IMO. It is not the only ritual invocation to do this but it is a popular one. Try it and see what you think and what you results are. It may work well for you or another may work better. It just depends on the person.

The dress or circle and tools depends on the rite you are using the bornless one with. If just used alone then that is not needed unless you feel you gain something from it. The bornless one rite itself is just said while inflaming yourself, i.e. not just read but recited with passion. The barbarous names are generally vibrated, one entire breath per name. There are several learned and unlearned articles around about this rite. If you are interested in the rite then I suggest some research as much as you can about it.

Crowley's adapted ritual using the bornless one, Liber Samekh involves various pentagrams, movements, and visualizations. Check his material for details on those.

The version of the Goetia Edited with an Introduction by Aliester Crowley gives an excellent account of this. Also his introduction is quite readable.

Note that this ritual proclaims to make all spirits subject under you. Its never a bad idea to use this mind state.

Once again this ritual is fun. Try screaming it and enjoy the power.

Peace!
