I just joined this forum, my question is. When you do an evocation and you use the black mirror, would this be this be called skrying? If so what should I do to get better at this technique.

Srying is divination by gazing into a mirror, crystal ball, bowl of water, or any other reflective surface. It also includes gazing into the flame for the puurpose of divination. Evocation is another thing entirely, although I might leave that up to our many residential Ceremonialists, Enochians, and such.

Not always. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nonono.gif)

Skrying may be done by focusing your attention on anything -- a wall, a page of text, a sound, a face, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/angel.gif) the sky, a fragrance, anything. The art of skrying is not to "look at" but to "look past" or to "look further".

So, what is it called when you look into whatever item you're using to see the spirit?

Thanks for the other replies=)

Usually it's simply called astral vision. The spirit resides in the astral plane during the evocation and the black mirror is used like a window into that realm.
I highly recommend the book 'Modern Magick' by Donald Craig. It's a great book for invo/evo cation and High magick in general, regardless of your expierience level. Good luck.

I'd call it evoking a spirit. You're using said divinitory tool to either peer through the strands of time of yourself or another entity. Including another person. Whats important to realize is that to be proficient one needs to know how to dispell energy as much as they know how to draw it into view of which ever device.

Yes I'll second that recommendation. It's good enough that if you had no access to any other books, you would learn a great deal. But I'm not advocating that since other opinions can be worth their weight in gold.

Amoung a number of different types of operations in which scrying would-be / is used .....
Yes, looking into your scrying device to see spirits during an evocation is scrying.

(don't know why everyone's having problems with that simple answer) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sculacciata.gif)
