Hello, I'm new to this site, just found it yesterday. I have a question...

I'm convinced that my soul left my body about 11 or 12 years ago and never came back. Is this possible? In all my research, I did finally find that according to old Chinese mysticism, it can happen but is usually accompanied by great physical illness (which I did have very much so at first). Physical (and mental) hindrance is still intermittent; it manifests usually as a deep rooted unshakeable anxiety. What I really want to know is, is there any way to get back my spirit? Since then it feels I've been, at varying levels, just "going through the motions"... not really alive...

I don't think it's possible for your soul to leave you, but then again, I "am" my soul. That's how I feel, live, and look at things. It sounds more like you may be going through a period of prolonged depression more than anything else friend. I suggest checking out www.stresscenter.com , it's awesome, and the program is WAY awesome. (PM me if you want some mp3's)

Sometimes on our path, we go through Dark Nights of the Soul. They suck, but are not permanant. In less dramatic language, "Dark Nights" are spiritual periods of depression. I wish someone would've told me that in less arcane language back in the day, lol! I would have dealt with it ALOT better, sooner, from a modern vantage point, but oh well, lol! You think all types of cooky stuff during that time.

In anycase, I just think you're depressed, or going through a "Dark Night". Your soul has not left you.

Then again, I could be wholly wrong, and it's sitting here right with me telling you to chill (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

(P.S. My apologies if I am incorrect. Just trying to help.)

Hey, I appreciate the kindness. The first time I'd heard about the "dark night of the soul" was from my friend after the first time I was hospitalized due to my condition. If I have this right, I believe it is related to "the crossing of the abyss", like Nikola Tesla for instance, a frightening but progressive journey from the height of the "animal brain", crossing over to the next four newer "circuits". And I remember after hearing this, wondering which direction I had gone... forward or back? It didn't make sense to me because (referencing the 8 circuits of consciousness here) it seemed that my psyche hadn't progressed through them in a straight line. ...Then again, you might be talking about something completely different - maybe the two aren't related. Someone else once told me they doubted very much the soul could leave the body like that, and I wish I could believe it. But thank you very much for your words.

As I mentioned friend, you think many an interesting thought while in that state, so, take your own thoughts with a grain of salt. A couple dashes if you have more, lol! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I admit, my knowledge of the 8 circuits of conciouness is rather sparing, though I do have Promethius Rising. (I should read it then, huh? lol!) . With that said, in my experience, the Dark Night can be related to the abyss, but not neccesarily.

For example, you can do energy work (such as with the Kundalini) that could potentially push your mind over in to the abyss, therefore causing a Dark Night, (Happened to me)

While doing spiritual work of a kind that draws close to God (however you may cocieve it), for some reason, the closer you get, the more in "love" you get, then all of a sudden, the lights go out. (Happened to me too)

Hell, probably happed to everyone at some point. The thing is, with any Dark Night the most important thing you need to have is the ability to look at what needs looking at, and having the ability to handle what you see, to accept what you see, integrating it, and allowing it to change as it merges with you.

I want to say alot, but, I'll keep it short. I'll simply say that hospitalisation is not fun, and modern psychological methods worked into a magickal paradigm is very healthy and wonderful! Try that site, and watch a few of the vids when you have time friend.

I'm definitely going to check out that site. My suspicion that my soul left is mostly a long-term retrospective observation. Then again, I also discovered (through reading) that I have been suffering from a depression so stark and disconnected that I had it for years before I knew it was there. Going to check out that site... thanks again...

Soul fragmentation is where an individual suffers such a great trauma that in a twisted effort to escape the person's soul fragments. The fragmented part usually comes back after a period of time and after a gret deal of healing one will not be adversly affected. However if the truama is repeated, say one is constantly deathy ill or in an abusive relationship or stressed beyond whats reasonable, the fragmented part of the soul will remain away.

The only way to fix this is to end the initial suffering, get way from anything that might cause your depression, and hope the soul fragment comes back. The other option is to see somebody who can do a soul retrival. But even then if the fragment does not want to come back it can't be forced as it will simply fragment again.

But this is assuming soul fragmention is the problem.

Shamans are known to be able to do "soul retrievals".
What you can do is do a self cleanisning ritual and do a daily prayer to a diety to help you recover.

You need to also begin to interact with more people to help you with the psychological aspect of the situation. Become less of an introvert and more of an exovert.

Thank you so much. This I had never heard of but it sounds like I've finally found out what is going on. Thank you.

Have you heard of susto? It's an "illness" that is believed to be caused by intense fright or traumatic situations in which the soul leaves the body. There are some "symptoms" of susto one can go through like insomnia, nervousness, anorexia (or extreme weight loss). I actually experienced something close to susto a couple years ago. My husband had to go to Canada to get his visa and was gone for 8 months. In that time I went through some great financial burdens, along with raising a child all by myself. I lost over 55 pounds, I couldn't sleep, eat, or even smile. I basically shriveled up into a tiny shell and began to die. It's possible to say the least, although I don't think your soul left you per say, only that a part of you has detached itself due to the inability to deal with something.

The way I got through this (which actually took a year and a half to over come) was that I had to actually "push" through and continue my daily life and old practices despite how hard it was. It was tempting to basically give up, but I began to slowly will myself to heal. I would stress extreme caution though, in this vulnerable stage more malicious entities are drawn to you in this weakened state. Not that they want to possess you or anything, but that by your weakened state they are more apt to gain an upper hand and begin to 'feed' off of you. I would recommend immediate healing for you if this is the case.

Jenfucius stated about shamans and soul retrieval. This is another possibility. A medicine man I knew once had some soul retrieval done for him by a fellow shaman. The shaman actually found an old man with a small boy in his travels. It turns out that the medicine mans' grandfather was holding onto a piece of him and refused to let it go. It was nothing terrible, only that his grandfather loved him and wanted to keep that part of his grandson with him. I would do some "soul searching" if I were you. Or do some soul retrieval yourself if your adept enough to handle that.

Hmm...You could be what a friend of mine used to call a Hollow One. Not sure there is anything you can do to get your soul back, but you could use the prediciment to your advantage. For instance, the art of Necromancy takes a little bit of your soul/lifeforce each time you work it. In your case, you could go far and give up nothing. You could also become a vessel for a god/gods...Or a body...

Just some thoughts..
